Sugar Shane Mosely better than Hands Of Stone Roberto Duran at 135 lbs, who reigned as champion from 1972 until he abdicated the title in 1979 to move up to 140 lbs, then 147lbs ?

A minor ammendment Rich - Duran never fought at 140 after abdicating the title.

With all due respect, Duran did fight at 140 lbs, just once against contender Monroe Brooks on Dec 8 1978 in Madison Square Garden, Duran won by KO 8.

With due respect back Duran - Brooks was fought at welterweight, 147.

I was a little bit harsh to call his opposition garbage because I forgot that he fought two former world champs in John John Molina and Jesse James Leija, although neither of them were lightweights and both were clearly past their best.

But the point stands…Mosley was rated highly by people back in the 90s (I think Roy Jones called him ‘the best lightweight since Duran’ at one point) because of the way he looked rather than who he fought.

Both weights John were 143 lbs. I believe. Brooks was a perennial Junior Welterweight contender.

Duran was 147 on the dot and Brooks 143. Junior Welterweight is 135-140.

No biggie, just an amendment Rich.
