Toney has said one day: "Boxing is a very dangerous stuff...you may not get out of the fight not the way you came".

Agreed. In fact Joshua after Ruiz hes no longer the same. The same Whyte after Povetkin I or Bowe after Golota or Ali after Shavers or the poor McClellan after Benn.

Exactly. Look at the Toll boxing took on James Toney, you can barely understand him when he talks nowadays. Boxing is the toughest and most dangerous sport there is.

 

No one knows the outcome but it's all about chasing the dream, for some it's all they have. I'd guess more lives would be lost without boxing.

Toney was right in saying this above all for youth. Young people of today not used to the hard life have a different perception for example between boxing and MMA. People who see other people fighting with hands and feet almost naked can come to understand the danger in MMA. In boxing instead unless some boxer does not report some terrible cuts like Vitali v Lewis or Fury v Wallin or falls to the ground with convulsions after a KO cannot perceive on TV the power of the blows, the sound of them when are landed and the damage they can inflict.

 

Can we be sure that's what Toney actually said, because usually when he speaks I can barely make out every other word?

its more gory and violent but ironically not as dangerous. A lot of the damage is (relatively) superficial, and to stress the point I mean relative to like...getting extended brain trauma that turns you into a vegetable. Obviously having your arm broken or your face split open is still pretty shitty, and of course there is a significant degree of brain trauma there too albeit not as much as boxing.

With boxing the bigger gloves, counts, longer total fight time but shorter rounds all leads to you being able to take tons of blows to the head without the fight ending, so more sustained brain trauma basically. Something like Fury/Wilder 2-3 for instance would have been over much quicker under MMA rules, meaning fewer impacts to the head.
