The man took a point away from Maidana for accidently elbowing him. Is that even part of the rules?

No not the worst, but he is among my least favorites. He invades the camera and the fight as much as anyone I have ever seen. He is not consistent in what he allows to take place among other flaws. But somebody must think he was good or he had some nice connections…he sure reffed a lot of high profile fights.

I love the face of pure enjoyment he has when a guy is getting lit up. He seems like a blood lusted fan more then a ref at times.

Referee Joe Cortez always quoted, I am Firm But Fair. Sounded like he was trying to reassure himself.

Laurence Cole is worse. Worst refereeing performance of the modern era is Russel Mora.

But none of these guys come close. Referees were sometimes just celebrities back in the day.

Referee Octavio Meyran is the bad luck ref, most top boxing stars lost when he refereed their big fights.

on 2nd video the commentator is wrong. Cortez messed it with when he look like he was stopping & then decide not to stop. that is the poor officiate . very bad perform

but what he does with disqualified is the correct. yes the man was down. this is worst obviously foul. irrelevants how hard the punches is. this in non discipline boxing & can be disqualified . take it on chin accept disqualify. not complaints

I thought he was shocking in the Hatton v Mayweather fight.
Now don’t get me wrong Floyd was a couple of levels above Ricky a fight he couldn’t have won.
However Ricky’s slim chance would have been enhanced if he had been able to get on the inside, but Cortez was pulling Hatton off Floyd virtually before he’d moved in, he simply wasn’t going to allow it.
Ironically Floyd is comfortable in there anyway so it wouldn’t have made that much difference but Cortez was taking no chances, it stank.

He was also looking away during Mayweather vs Ortiz knockdown, surely one of the worst refs ever

Not even close. Easily the worst, most corrupt and most biased ref I have ever seen is Dave Parriss. He was beyond putrid. Pure crap.

Laurence Cole, Ian John-Lewis, Jack Reiss and Joe Cortez are the four worst I've seen.

I consider Joe Cortez the worst of all time because his terrible officiating goes back to the late 1970s. He has the deepest resume of bad refereeing.
