No because once Wilder found out he wasn’t easy work he continued down that very same path with Fury. . . Stubbornly even declining huge step aside money.

 

Overweight or not, Fury was the legitimate lineal champion having dethroned Klitschko.
To call him a cherry pick is baffling.

 

I think Wilder underestimated Fury and didn’t anticipate that Fury would rise to the level that he did in their 1st fight, but it wasn’t a cherry pick.

If it was a cherry pick with the aim of getting a good name on his resume before facing Joshua for undisputed, Wilder simply would have moved on after their first “draw” while his 0 was still intact, rather than pursuing a 2nd AND 3rd fight against Fury.

Not sure if I'd call it a cherry pick. But he did underestimate Fury IMO.

 

If fighting the lineal champ is a cherry pick, then for sure most of AJ’s career is the same — Wlad especially included.

But whatever you think of their first fight, Wilder fought him again … and Fury was surely peak for that one. And even after getting KO’d, Wilder stepped up (and even went to court to enforce it) to fight him yet again.

You can’t call the second and third fights cherry picks.

 

How in the hell is fury the lineal champ and best fighter wilder ever faced a cherry pick? The logic around here is crazy.

 

Wilder's biggest fear in boxing was someone like Wlad, seemingly very tough in sparring and hits like a truck.

Fury has never really scared him because Fury has always had a power defecit

Then he saw Fury obese and making a "comeback" he jumped at him...because in his mind it was a very very smart cherry pick...but it wasn't very smart because Fury has something deep deep down inside of him that cannot be beat. He is a born and bred fighting man and Wilder now knows what that is...he should have gone after the hard hitters like Whyte & Wlad he could have been more successful.

The timing was a cherry pick, that is no question. Floyd fighting Pacquiao & Cotto at the time he did was also a timing cherry pick.

 

They were both perfect for each other. Wilder saw him as easy pickings because he was fat, had mental health issues and trying to get back into boxing. A wilder win over fury would give him good leverage for a AJ fight. But tyson fury saw wilder as a big limited fighter . There were times in their trilogy that fury was using wilder as a human heavybag, landing punches and combos he could never land on someone like wlad or AJ.
