I think it’s sensible from Boxxer tbh. Get him a winnable fight first, bit of Sky publicity then go for a big fight.
Eubank is going down the Benn route. Tick over fight to get Smith out with a bigger fight lined up afterwards.
I see what you are getting at but I have to disagree. Callum waiting and waiting as you say, only fighting once a year... is seeing his best years pass him by and people are forgetting about him. Liam on the other hand is coming off some of the best momentum his career has had with the local win over Fowler which in turn got him the Vargas fight that he duly won. Fighters need to stay active and I believe Liam is a fighter who needs momentum, he's even said so himself. He did get robbed in the Kurbanov fight but even still, it wasn't a great performance by him and he looked off the pace.... the 18 month lay-off leading up to it won't have helped. The carrot was dangled at Boxxer with the Eubank fight but it looks like he's set to fight Benn so I think it's good that Smith isn't messing around waiting and is instead keeping active. More fighters should do the same.
Agree mate. Beefy has some momentum with stoppage wins over Fowler and Vargas so I understand Sky giving him a winnable fight first off to keep it going and get the big publicity that Sky can bring for him before throwing him in a big one. Callum fought for 2 rounds last September, did he really need to wait 11 months for his next fight.
I want Liam in for a World title shot again and soon. Same for Callum, after that absolutely brutal, devastating KO he should have started talks for the next fight straight away, even if it was only the same level of opponent again, which wasn't a bad level tbh, he could have built some momentum.
I agree 100%. He hasn’t been a priority for either promoter he’s been with especially Hearn. To be fair Warren got him the vacant WBO shot against a fighter with no heart. Smith has even called Hearn out on it a few times. I certainly don’t want to see people do what Callum did, no chance, I was just saying it because it probably wouldn’t put him in any worse position at times so you could understand if he, personally didn’t want to take ones like this. I wish there were more like him. I disagree about his Russian fight though, I thought he looked great at times but was definitely a bit rusty.
Callum Smith has never been a priority for Hearn because he doesn’t throw tables at press conferences. Even when Smith fought Canelo you could tell Hearn was infatuated with Canelo and wasn’t really backing Callum.
Hearn is a simp around Canelo. Smith's now got Gary Russel Jr levels of inactivity...he should follow Liam to Sky.
The truth is that Callum Smith is not selling tickets and drawing new subscriptions to DAZN UK. Therefore, Matchroom does not have much interest in him. The most sensible thing for him would clearly be to sign with Boxxer / Sky Sports.
Eubank Jr. can be bought free of that agreement if the money is big enough. Wasserman Boxing is probably ready for dialogue. I have heard that Eubank Jr. dont want to be bound by DAZN. If he is to face Conor Benn it will be a "one fight deal" otherwise the fight will not happen.
