There wasn't really anyone his size skill wise at that time, George Foreman was billed as a giant then. However do you think he'd have been fighting at 240-250 lbs weight at that time when weight training was not nearly as empathized for boxers?

    KOed by:

    Foreman
    Shavers
    Lyle
    Holmes

    Very likely even by Ali

PS: Joshua's wafer chin = easy job for those punchers

Most of the top heavy's in the 1970's get charged with attempted murder after fighting Joshua...

Foreman, Ali, Shavers, Lyle, Holmes, FOTC Frazier all knock the hell out of him.

Yeah, he'd lose some power and strength, but gain stamina and probably also agility. He's got good fundamentals and technique for a 6'6 guy, would have a big reach and height advantage and still punch hard. I think he'd be a difficult night for any of them if he has a good one, is as far as I care to predict.

I don't know how much Joshua's weight training does for him in this era, to be honest, save add body-weight and present an image of athleticism.

He'd of course, still be considered a big lump, if not a leaner one. It's hard to say what this might do to his performances and might even improve them, from the athletic standpoint. But Joshua would still be short on the skills required to compete with the top flight guys of the '70s, in my opinion.

Joshua might be like a Big John Tate of the times and I'd probably back a 'pre-Weaver' Tate to beat him.

he will win British title sometimes & European title . will win with Urtain & old Bodell & Mclinden Euro Brit level certainty. this boxers cannot take him up beyond few round.

might win with Bugner. or loss it. depend in how Bugner wants to try to fight or just going the motions . 15 round is long for AJ & if Bugner is try his best inspiration fighting it is too much for AJ. can go both ways. W or L. The 50 & 50 match

at the world class he will loss.

He’s got good combos, he can bang, has height and weight advantage over the rest, and he’s a pretty decent boxer.

Having said all that, his stamina is not great, and his punch resistance is not elite level. I could see him struggling badly after 7/8 rounds against a few of the top boys.
He’s no Chuck Wepner (!) but I can see him being a handful for them all.

You are a sharp guy so likely recall my skepticism-in this case assuming AJ used PEDs.
He may well have, but where is the evidence?
I have known many guys at least as big as he was at his biggest-& many were natural.
Also PEDs in the 70's-some used them & got very big & powerful then or before.
Although the health risks might be worse...

You are correct about what other effects are likely due to training limitations.
BTW Foreman usually weighed less than that, although without dehydration he would be at least your figures...
And I agree with your overall prognoses of his back to the future success.

I agree. Imagine making such a claim without an ounce of evidence to back it up.

Honestly? A lot better than most on ESB will ever give him credit for.

How would he have done? Depends, how would he respond to getting KTFO against one of the killers already mentioned here. I'd say he retires after his 3rd ko loss in about 20 fights. I'm not certain he'd beat Joe Bugner

It's not about pounds, it's about height.
No one refers to Andy Ruiz as a "modern super heavyweight", even though he fits the weight class of "modern super heavyweight".
Everyone mentions Deontay Wilder (because of his height), although in the fight with Fury 1 he weighed 212.5 pounds (2.5 pounds more than Marvish Frazier, who was a "smaller" heavyweight).
I think AJ would lose to the aforementioned "killers", as well as Muhammad Ali.

AJ is a tremendous athlete. Today, he represents the best a guy that tall can be. Back in the 1970s there were tall guys like Larry Middleton, Chuck Wepner, Joe Bugner, Roy Tiger Williams and Jeff Candy Slim merrit. And that was about as good and as big and explosive as a guy that tall could get using the training and access to information available in those times.

Advances in science had not yet made big gangly guys anywhere as explosive and as functional as is achievable today.

If you put AJ back then he wouldn’t be half the beast he is now. He could develop and function only on what was available then.
