Moore beat his biggest names at light heavy, Lyle was a genuine heavy who came close to beating Foreman, was beating Ali for a good portion of the fight.
Moore was a great light heavy but I don't see him beating a Lyle or a Shavers or a Quarry etc.

I don't know Swag, Lyle was a powerful guy, underrated at boxing.
Not saying its a impossible fight for arch, but I like Lyle here.

Sure, but he also beat Lyle level HWs.
Ali was in horrible state during Lyle fight. I wouldn't be surprised if Moore could beat that version of Ali. Foreman fight is a great effort from Lyle, but still a losing effort.
What makes Lyle or Shavers so much better than Valdes or Baker?

Foreman hadn’t fought in what like 18 months or something when he fought Lyle??? Plus he had a new trainer in Gil Clancy and he was never the same in his first go after the loss to Ali….. I rematch should have happened there but I feel Lyle was a tad overrated. Foreman prior to Ali mows him down and maybe 4 or 5 after that loss to Ali it would have been easier for George. That said Lyle did catch George and it was a hell of a fight.

If anything Lyle is overrated IMO, he was dominated by Quarry, Young x2. He was also stopped by an older Ali after Ali was sleepwalking throughout most of the fight. And lost pretty much all of his biggest fights.

I don't rate Valdes that high either.
Moore was a decent heavyweight, I don't see him knocking ten bells of crap out of Lyle.

Neither am I. It took Foreman and Ali to beat Lyle a time when Lyle was near his best. These were tough fights and Moore never beat 220 pounds for that matter like Lyle. Take a look at his record. How did he beat as good as the 220 pound Lyle? See my point? There is some serious over rating of 50 / 60's fighters and I'm not talking about Liston, Ali, or Frazier.

Ring Magazine did an article non the top 50 heavyweights in the late 90's. Lyle was on it, Moore was not and several smaller men were listed.

I agree, Lyle was a tough guy, good chin. I know he struggled at times against boxers but I see him being to strong for Moore.
I don't see Moore getting that high if boxing in the 1970 s as a heavy.

I don't think he was underrated at boxing at all after watching him have absolutely nothing for Young in two fights.

Thank you! I've been in the minority but I've always thought Williams was the much better fighter (pre gunshot at least lol) he beat more ranked fighters, was faster, imo more powerful, a better boxer, more versatile, did much better against boxers, and made it to No. 2 which Lyle never did.

I've never thought much of Lyle tbh.

I don't rate Valdes high either, but Lyle wasn't much better than him, if at all.

I never like to rate a fighter when his best performances are losing efforts TBH, and that's what pretty much what people rate Ron Lyle on.

    Most, but not all.
