Craig Stephen is a great lad. Sadly I’m not sure he’d fit into the “Stormzy gig” atmosphere they seem to be encouraging… I’m just old fashioned but the whole “double announcement” nonsense in boxing does my head in. Announcing that someone’s walking to the ring, then announcing them for the fight, is such a waste of time. Either do it the old fashioned way and wait til they’re both in the ring to announce the names (by all means let them come out to music, but as little as possible eh) or just announce them on the way down like wrestling has done for years, and be done with it!
I think you're right about Boxxer trying to make it more young, so Craig Stephen unfortunately doesn't fit that role. Ricky Wright I think works quite well and he doesn't take the attention. The person Boxxer had hired last night suffers from the same disease as David Diamante. He thinks he is the main attraction.
Announcers generally need to be able to have good pronunciation. Jama is up there with Alex Scott in that regard - not fit for a “boxin” announcer…
Pro-Wrestling that I watch has always done the announcement of names before walk entrance and in the ring. Other combat sports with multiple MMA promotions and K-1 for example exactly the same. Boxxer is following the norm.
There was a good looking woman ring announcer years ago in the States-Amy Hayes. Sadly she doesnt get much work.
