I thought about Machen. He drew with Folley and lost to him and then there’s the loss against Harold Johnson.. sure he beat a young quarry but he wouldn’t have beat a more experienced Quary who beat Lyle.

he beat # 1 rated most logical contender 6’3 215lb Nino Valdes and knocked out # 3 rated 6’2 210lb Bob Baker

Moore did just fine Vs size

Lyle gave Bugner all he could handle. And that’s no mean feat. Ron took the decision but it could have went the other way.

you overrate Lyle big time when you pick him over 190lb all time great fighters because he was “220lb.” First of all, Lyle was a good fighter but just that only a good fighter. Second, who did he ever knock out who was any good besides tiring out Earnie Shavers? Lyle was big strong and powerful but he was no George Foreman

Lyle had quite a bit of holes in his game. Moore was way better at counter punching than quarry and hit harder than quarry. He was only about 10-15lb less than quarry. Moore could pick apart Lyle and hurt him, especially late where Lyle had poor stamina and poor was a great finisher in the late rounds

Valdes was 6’3 215lb and # 1 rated. He was strong and could punch. Was Lyle that much better than Valdes? Film and record suggest otherwise

In the 70s Lyle could’ve had the same reputation as Foreman with different management. He’d have KO’d Norton and did supposedly, KO’d the version of Frazier that George did I reckon (Frazier team admitted to ducking Lyle) and still lost to Ali and Young again.

Archie Moore would clown Ron Lyle at his best. Every night of the week, Ronnie couldn’t do anything in there with the Mongoose.

you can say that again. George came right back at him and won that fight. As brave and as good as Rob was against George, nothing on his resume puts Ron close to Foreman. He just gave him a good fight.

you know, I bet Nino was a bigger guy than Ron if you ever saw them stood together. I am willing to bet that Nino was bigger and broader looking than Ron Lyle regardless of weight and claimed stats.

No, I don't pick Lyle over all 190 pound people, nor are the multitude of people you mentioned ALL time greats. Please represent what I said fairy. Valdes wasn't as good and Moore''s victory over him was somewhat controversial. I have not seen it on film, if there is any but I have seen Valdes. He fights like a boxer, not a slugger. Way too tentative, don't let his size fool you! Lyle was strong and could punch, and he beat and fought better fighters. Anyway Lyle is way more impressive on film. Valdes claim to fame is that Rocky would not fight him. I think Marciano beats him by they way. I'm sure Lyle beats Valdes, and favor him over Moore.

    No.

Lyle is literally the most overrated fighter on the board.

Heavyweight puncher who didn't score many meaningful knockouts. Lyle didn't knock out skillful fighters. He would get badly found out in the 50s I reckon.

Wow, is this true? Fraizer's team ducked Lyle Lyle? And Lyle Ko'd Norton in sparring? I might be under rating Lyle.

More over rated the Cleveland Willams? Who knocked Lyle out but Foreman and Ali in his prime? As I mentioned Lyle had Foremen rocked and hurt, and was ahead of Ali on points at least he was deep in the match until it was stopped. Only somebody good could do this. And he beat many raked fighters and some contenders who fought for the title.

Are you really putting Folley above Lyle ?!?
Folley's a complete bum compared to Lyle.

And Foreman had ring rust and I think Ali took him lightly. The Ali from the Foreman fight or Wepner fight makes Lyle look silly in there. And Foreman pre Ali makes quick work of Lyle…. I actually think Gil Clancy had George holding back…… He could have put Young away if not for that!!!!
