Tyson v Marciano - Whats your strategy If Your Training Rocky?

Unfair fight. I spoke with Peter Marciano about this in 2006. He claimed Marciano would have trained differently today and never would have stepped foot in the ring against a 225lb Mike Tyson at his ring weight of 185lb.

I believe Marciano would have fought at cruiserweight in the 1980s and gone undefeated including beating holyfield and qawi.

 

If Rocky were in today's world, he could benefit from the updated diets and training. Maybe not 225 but I could see him at a solid 215. If he did come in around that. If he had the training to improve his defense, developing more lateral movements; using more inside fighting::::: I could see a barn burner!!

I think mentality would be the key factor. Rocky did have to come from behind against Walcott; Mike never did. Could be the difference.

 

Traslation- All rocky needs to beat Tyson is to fight in such a way that he has never fought previously.

 

Have him train with Evan Fields!!! Lots of Steroids and head butting!!!!

 

Bulk up some, with hard leg training. Squats, etc. Then stay in low and close, extremely close. Tyson needs some mid punching distance. Don't give him any. Keep hanging in there like that until Tyson starts getting frustrated. The plan would be to out-stamina Mike, then unload on him late.

 

One thing that needs to be recognised is Tyson is not a capable inside fighter and looked totally lost there.

If Marciano can stay on his chest and consciously makes an effort to ride out the early storm and mug him later, he might have some success. I’m not saying he wins but that’s just what I can see.

It might not and probably wouldn’t even be right. Mike might just take Rocky’s head off in round two the second he finds space.

 

I’d say his best bet would be to stay as close to Tyson’s chest as possible as mike preferred mid range.

 

Something similar came to my mind too. Stay close, clinch, wrestle, use that illegal sneaky elbow Rocky sometimes threw. The early rounds are all about surviving and taking the edge off Mike's explosiveness. Later in the fight, up the workrate and try to take advantage of a gassed Tyson.

I'm one of the guys that think Marciano could do it, though you'd have to favour Tyson. Marciano is the little guy juggling with handgrenades here.

 

I'd say don't take there fight .. period.
