LL is the clear number one IMO. I have Holy in front of Bowe because Bowe was done by 96' while Holyfield was still a top fighter through the whole decade. MM is ahead of Tyson because he simply beat better fighters like Holyfield, Schultz, etc. While Tyson's best wins were against Ruddock and Bruno.

Honestly, I could see Foreman on the list instead of Tyson. Not only did he beat Moorer who was better than anyone Tyson beat in the 90's but he also got a disputed decision over Axel Schultz and should have got the decision against the dangerous Shannon Briggs.

Every single fighter on my list had some level of vulnerability and all of them lost to fighter's that they were superior to.

I'm not very good at lists but i gave it a go. Maybe Holmes, Tua, Bruno, have an argument for sneaking in top 10 aswell.

 

Good list but i disagree with Moorer's rating bit too high IMO, also you have to remember you have to count Tyson's wins before he went to prison. So overall in 90's Tyson beat Ruddock x2, Tillman, Stewart, Bruno, Seldon, Botha, and won two belts.

Moorer has good win vs a Holyfield that wasn't in good health, but got destroyed in the rematch by Holyfield and lost to Foreman. Moorer probably does have slightly better resume than Big George in 90s, but i also got to have Foreman over Moorer, for the fact he beat Moorer and won lineal championship, aswell as almost holding the belt for almost 3 years.

But again it's very debatable but i would say those 6 names, are the right ones whichever order you have them in.

 

Holyfield is overrated as ****, you got to remember that Tyson after his prison sentence was never the same fighter again, he was basically away from boxing for 4 straight years in a prison with bad food and no training. Second best of the 90s... Hollyfield? no way!

 

Solid list. Another guy that somewhat gets forgotten about for his work in the 90's was Larry Holmes. I would argue that he was even better than Foreman with his win over Ray Mercer and his very close decision loss to McCall who I thought he beat. Larry was far from shot.

Moorer also beat Stewart and Botha just as Tyson did. I rate George Foreman as a much better fighter than Buster Douglas and I don't give Holyfield a pass for not being in top shape against Moorer. He was very clearly jacked on Steroids and that is 100% on him. All that said, head to head I would take Tyson over Moorer but as far as who performed better in the 90's I give a slight edge to MM.

 

I was thinking about putting Holmes in my top 10, but he didn't quite have enough quality wins IMO. Had he edged the decision against McCall, he would of definitely have been in my top 10 and maybe close to top 5. And also the fact Holmes didn't win a title made me edge Morrison over him, i know i'm contradicting myself by having Ibeabuchi in top 10 who didn't win a belt. But two very impressive wins over Byrd, Tua, is enough for me to edge him in the top 10.

 

As i said it's very debatable but Tyson's two wins over Ruddock, and coming back after prison winning two belts gives him a strong argument. Moorer probably did have more filler to his resume but for me Tyson edges it, but as i said you could see it many different ways.

 

Yeah it's pretty close when you compare their 90's resumes. Tyson was unquestionably better overall because of what he accomplished in the 80's. I have a ton of respect for how Moorer rebounded after getting caught by Foreman. A lot folks looked down on him for losing to a 45 year old fighter without truly giving Foreman his due for how special of a fighter he was. Holyfield to this day said that Foreman hit him harder than anyone he ever fought. Just think if he would have caught Holyfield just right and ko him. Holyfiled would be seen way differently.

 

I always liked Moorer as a fighter personally, his Light Heavyweight fights were entertaining. And his Heavyweight fights vs Cooper, Stewart, Botha, were highly entertaining aswell. Especially Cooper fight which is one of the best Heavyweight fights of all time period.

The problem i had with Moorer at times, is he could get into a habit of fighting very one paced never really getting out of 2nd gear, which is a shame because when he did let his hands go. He was very accurate/sharp puncher had a great uppercut and vicious combinations aswell.

 

1980 decade was better era i belief

i never do understand what is golden in 1990 decade except the trilogy with the Bowe & Holyfield match

 

I certainly agree that the 80's was full of talent. I think the reason the 90's gets so much more praise is because of the parity. At any given time Lewis, Bowe, Tyson and Holyfield were seen as the top dog while the 80's were dominated by two guys. Holmes in the first half of the decade and Tyson in the second.

 

Almost any version of Tyson would have mopped the floor with Moorer.
