Yeah this is the crux of it, a snidey attempt by Hearns to “manufacture” a star, at any cost, by buying a name, pay a star just enough and they’ll boil down to wherever you need em. thing is with Hearns he’s built a solid fan base of matchroom nerds who believe RESUME is everything so if BENNE beats a 156lb young CHRIS who was allowed one pint of water between weigh in and fight night this is the same as beating a prime 168lb EUBANK JR. since the star name goes on the all important RESUME either way. matchroom have found their niche by feeding shot to pieces generic old name fighters to their heavies to build BRAND RECOGNITION and MARKET PENETRATION so are now trying something a little different by draining a name fighter right down to feed to their house midget fighter. it’s sports entertainment, and it will do those all important BIG NUMBERS but I question the value of a name win with so many asterisks against it Shot to pieces retired old VLADD for instance who took prime Aj life and death had a long list of asterisks against his name *was coming off a loss *was nearly forty two years old *was without a win in two years *was without a KO win in three years *came out of retirement to face Joshua *was bought to Wembley on a boatload of money *had grey hair and a saggy back *never fought again Yet the commonal garden matchroom goober only sees the name KLITSCHKO and cannot compute anything else I see an opportunity here to make big money on a EUBANK JR win since he has opened at an outrageous 8/13 to WIN which is obscene odds for an established world level 160lber to plough through an unproven welterweight. I’m keeping my powder dry until the details of the young CHRIS handicap are released but my instinct tells me Hearns has bitten off more than he can chew here and the little runt BENNE is going to be brutalised to a stoppage
I feel like I'm the only one on here who is looking forward to this fight. I seriously don't understand the hate that you lot give to Benn. In real life people are enjoying watching him fight etc but on here the hate he receives is crazy lol. I'm a fan of Eubank to so don't mind who wins really, but will be good for Benn's career if he can win.
If it werent for the weight, id be very much looking forward to this fight. But we cant get away from the fact that weight is a massive issue here, have it at 160 benns undersized, anything below 160 and eubanks severely compromised, then rehydration clauses etc. thats what puts me off about and probably most people. Dont get pure hatred etc like
I'm not really a fan of either of them but Jnr is calmer and far less emotional than Benn, much the same as their dads. Jnr should be able to pick him off gradually and I think by the later rounds Benn will be spent, the weight cut will effect Jnr but he wouldn't have taken this fight if he thought it posed the same kind of problem that sharing a ring with a prime Golovkin would have done, he located his pen easily enough for this which tells me that he knows what to do. I hope so, Benn needs humbling.
Is there any post on any thread where you don’t bring AJ into it? Think you have a crush or something, Faryl Makhdoom doesn’t even think about him as much as you do.
It's not crazy to dislike someone displaying a particular attitude. Benn comes across as arrogant, borderline delusional and seems to want a level of respect way beyond his professional standing. He seems to be trying to put himself across as an angry young man in a hurry, like his dad, but without the hurrying. Now there is a class of people who like and celebrate that attitude, to the extent they'll pay to go see him - and I've no problem with that, but personally it's not for me. It seems there are more people actively posting on this forum who dislike Benn. For what it's worth I don't particularly like Eubank Jr either - he has a similar character but it's more pantomime villain than anything. His dad, until the Sky World Tour days, was similar but at least he proved himself in the ring first. Junior hasn't done anything like enough to warrant his level of confidence.
It wasn’t about AJ it was using the shot old VLADD example of the matchroom formula for their house heavies. This “draining for pay” to buy a name for BENNEs cv seems to be a new variation on the same theme. the only slight relevance of aj here is BENNE could perhaps be considered the new aj in terms of marketing hype vs in ring results
In my now deleted End of matchroom? thread I predicted that the little runt’s hype train would be derailed within the next 2 years. Turns out it only lasted another few months
Funny thing is I have heard the opposite, apparently Benn has been shaking up Ryder in sparring. Always good to hear sparring stories, but means little when little under the bright lights
