That is one thing Liston is constantly underrated on, his boxing ability. He had arguably the best overall jab in heavyweight history and Sonny showed other good boxing skills. I have Sonny ranked way ahead of both K brothers and believe he'd take both apart in a head to head matchup.
If this was about Wlad (still not entirely sure who the heck Vlad is), then I'd say yes, he was the overall greater ATG. Vitali...no. Though he was an unquestionably excellent fighter, I don't feel he accomplished as much as his brother. And, to be frank, wasn't quite as good a fighter overall. Just my opinion.
So not only does Joe Louis not make your list, but he's not within even five heavyweights of Liston or even the guy Liston demolished twice in the first round? Wow! I seem to have been underrating Liston all this time! Excellent point (for once) Nobrain! Will have to now redo both my H2H and ATG list based on this information.
Btw Liston basically has the same resume as Povetkin. Vetkin beat some small guys like Chambers, Byrd, Perez, and Huck. He beat some middling full sized guys like Takam and Whyte. He got dominated when he fought an ATG. The main difference is that he beat Chagaev, who was a highly skilled full sized heavyweight.
Look it up. I don’t have the time to educate you. Theirs only 24 hours in a day. Because you caught me in a good mood I’ll give you a hint. It perfectly fits your criteria of “heavyweights who got put on the deck in round one of the biggest fight of their career.”
*There're And no ****ing way was Braddock his biggest fight. Lol at thinking that's bigger than Schmeling or Marciano.
It was the fight where he won the heavyweight championship of the world. When there was ONE champ. I'm guessing it was pretty important.
1. It was definitely bigger than the Marciano fight which was only a (extremely) big fight in retrospect. It was a non-title fight between Louis who was well known to be past it, and an upcoming contender. 2. You're laughing at someone thinking Louis's most important fight was when he WON his title to start his historic reign and fulfill his legacy as perhaps the GOAT heavyweight, but you think Liston's most important fight was after he'd won and lost the championship in an arena filled with all of 2000 people? You're a clown. 3. It's debatable whether his fight with Schmeling or Braddock was bigger. What's not debatable is the Braddock bout would fit your criteria of a fighter "put on the deck in round one of the biggest fight of their career." much better than Ali-Liston II.
I thought his Foreman posts were bad. He laughs at me for putting forth the Braddock bout as an example of Louis's biggest fightswhile putting fourth Ali-Liston II as Liston's biggest fight which is a joke. Both are similar in that both were challenging for the World Championship. That's where the similarities end. Louis had yet to reach that illustrious peak going into the Braddock bout, while with Liston it was more of a case of "been there, then that" when he'd faced Ali. Not to mention, people weren't exactly holding promotors hostage and demanding this fight. literally nobody wanted this fight which is why it was held in a Lewiston gym with an attendance of around 2,000. Louis's win jumpstarted a record 25 title defenses and a 12 year title run. It's not hard to see for most people .Louis-Braddock has a much better case of being Louis's biggest bout than Liston-Ali II being Liston's. Unfortunately, noneck is not most people I bet if Liston knocked Ali out in the first in that fight, not only would it not be Liston's most important bout but he'd avoid it like the plague, and say it was rather insignificant.
