Now a LHW beating a HW can make it in let’s say Archie Moore over Valadez but can any ideas of “Cleveland Williams over unrated fighter X” No HW victors.

Overrated has to be Nelson’s tainted rematches with Martinez and Fenech. Give it context and an eye and it’s no pair of glistening gems. Underrated Khaokor Galaxy vs Sung Kil Moon 2 or Gilberto Roman over Jiro.

I don't think Pete Sarron gets nearly enough love for finally mastering Freddie Miller. Miller was an absolutely beast of a featherweight who amassed two-hundred career victories - that's ****ing absurd - most of them at the poundage (or 127ish).

Miller assassinated the featherweight division of the 1930s. No fighter ranked at the summit for longer during that decade than Miller, not Kid Chocolate, not Battling Battalino, not Henry Armstrong. In that time, he defeated a cacophony of fighters ranked in the divisional top five, including Tommy Paul, Eddie Shea, Frankie Wallace, Baby Arizmendi, Nel Tarleton and Young Rightmire. Of those ranked from 6-10, he took Lew Feldman, Rodolfo Casanova, Vernon Cormier and Maurice Holtzer. Other significant scalps included Abie Israel, Panama Al Brown and Chalky Wright. It is crazy.

Sarron first ran into him in 1933, got battered over ten, had another go in 1934 and lost a high-paced fight, also in 10 rounds. They met for a strap in 1936, where Miller won clear, but with a lot of close, close rounds, Sarron dropping a couple on fouls, so the gap may have been closing - in a rematch later that year, the two fought on absolutely even terms over fifteen rounds and Sarron go the nod.

Now this fight could have gone either way - it was split, and clearly extremely close. So they met again in 1937 over twelve and Sarron got the unquestionable victory, beating his man to the punch throughout and dropping him on more than one occasion. This is a great win.

Miller lost a couple of DQs but the last time he was beaten at 126lbs had been in 1932, at 13-0. Sarron took him twice, and once absolutely deservedly. Very underrated series, hugely underrated win.

Tyson-Spinks, for sure. Not sure why everyone gets so ga-ga over that one.

Camacho's major victories, as in over Limon and Ramirez. The truth about Camacho is that while very, very talented he was extremely carefully matched. Brawlers dulled by the years was who he liked to feast on. When he did have to go after a less friendly style, he was on far more even terms.

Overrated: Fenech’s win over Nelson, who had malaria.

Underrated: Nelson’s win in the rematch in Australia, Jeff’s backyard, where he completely destroyed Fenech.

Bull sh1t. Fenech wasted Nelson forced him to hide his mouth piece and mugged him. Nelson tried that nonsense multiple times he’s full of wind. Second look at when that second fight happened and read into what was happening.

I don’t know what most of this means — he tried what multiple times, what do you mean about hiding his mouthpiece?

Second look at when that second fight happened? It happened nine months after the first fight. In Fenech’s native Australia, in front of 40,000 of his screaming fans.

THAT was a mugging. Azumah knocked him into next week.

Past prime Fenech made Azuhma hide his mouth piece. Watch the fight, the delay when they’re scrambling around the ring going “I don’t know where it is?” Stalling. He tried the nonsense about being sick many times, one can just literally see he was the same as always unless you are blind or bias.

The second fight was just a matter of Fenech being different read into it and watch the fight ffs. the first Nelson fight was his final hurrah he was a party boy. Same as the Martinez fights, Martinez was robbed and then Azuhma rematches him, Mario breaks his hand and suddenly the boxing lesson is over and it’s still somehow an even fight. Azuhma is overrated to high hell.

Overrated: Michael Nunn over Frank Tate
Nunn's performance in this fight was so captivating that still, in 2022, it forms many people's dominant image of Nunn, even though he never replicated it in thirty fights after. Is dominating Frank Tate really proof of unlimited talent lying within Nunn? As best I can tell, Tate beat one legit world champion in his career. Can you name him?

Underrated: Donald Curry over Gianfranco Rosi
A lot of people treat Curry like he was washed up after Honeyghan or at least after McCallum, but in 1988 he managed a win with five knockdowns over a very tricky 154-pounder in Gianfranco Rosi. That's not just a good win for an aging fighter. That's a good win period.

So an overrated guy KTFO your boy Fenech?

Did Fenech never party until after the first Nelson fight? Was that something new he learned? No. Nothing changed on his part.

What changed was that the superior fighter, Nelson, didn’t have malaria in the rematch. He didn’t just take Jeff to school — he expelled him. He knocked Fenech down early and that took the starch out of the Aussie and Nelson kept pouring it on … except unlike in the first match, when Fenech poured it on and threw everything he had at a malarial opponent and Azumah didn’t succumb, Jeff was lights out … party over.

The only thing ‘not the same’ about Fenech in the second fight is that he was facing a healthy opponent and couldn’t bully around a Professor who was at full strength.

(But I’m sincerely happy for Jeff’s fans that he had a ‘good’ excuse, him learning to party for the first time ever between the two fights.)
