Fury also confirms his retirement to Ring magazine (not that their belt means anything); This content is protected
Most people don't give a **** about the made up "lineal champion "...what's count are the legit 4 World titles then after that is Ring magazine title (hopefully Ring donthe right and restore a little credibility it has left by making Usyk vs AJ for their title).
Yes, forget who the world champion is, just have a bunch of claimants parading their shitty plastic abc belts around.
So if Lennox Lewis came out retirement would he now be lineal champion again? That's what Fury did according believers of the mythical "Lineal Champion".
Not too well clued up there on the Lineal Title with a statement like that. The lineal title goes back to John L Sullivan in 1885 to Fury today who took it from Klitschko so was around decades before any of the alphabet belts and has a longer history and more prestige to it. The lineal title was handed from Champion to new Champion however there has been a few breaks such as when Lewis retired. Mike Tyson was so hung up on the lineal title Spinks held from beating Holmes that he was coaxed out of retirement to fight Tyson in the then the biggest purse in Boxing History at the time. Tyson wanted the lineal title so bad so he could be mentioned in the same breath as his Idol Dempsey and all the other Heavyweight greats. Yet you say Joshua and Usyk won’t give a damn about the lineal title. SMH
No. Status as Lineal champion is relinquished upon official retirement. There's nothing mythical about it. There's no question now; Fury has confirmed his retirement to the public, the WBC, & The Ring. No twitter jokes, no u-turns & flip-flopping, no reasons of insanity. It's official. Done.

Plan to become first 3x undefeated champ? "Retire" and vacate so he can come back when Usyk is old and shot, and win a 3rd time but undefeated? Would break some records i'm sure?
But Fury retired many times now. Shouldn't Fury of lost his "status" when he retired for first time, which was on same day as the news of his failed drug test came out after he pulled out the Wlad rematch due to a "ankle injury" (him not selling tickets in his home town).
If Fury isnt a bipolar mess that changes his mind everyday and actually does stay retired its the dumbest decision ever, ome fight before undisputed.
I Guarantee the winner of Joshua v Usyk will never refer to themselves as the “lineal champion” why? because they don’t need to.Fury on the other hand did because he had just come back from a 2 year bender had no belts and his public image and profile was nothing like it is today so he used it as marketing ploy imo which is fair enough he done a good job.Him beating Klitschko was a very good win that ended an era but he’s in a different era now so what relevance does it have right now? None imo.
All titles are made up The lineal title is older than the trash physical plastic titles we have today The lineal title is one of the oldest and is the oldest form of determining who is the best man - the man who beat the man. It's very simple. Meanwhile everyone and their dog can win a plastic title these days. The only issue with the lineal title is when a break occurs such as now and who takes claim to the lineage. Wlad had to do that. Can Usyk take claim to it? I'd argue not. Beating a bodybuilder twice doesn't do that. If he can win the WBC belt then it's clear cut but due to timings and politics we know how hard that is...which is why undisputed status is regarded highly... Everyone knows though if AJ wins with his punchers chance Fury is back in a heartbeat and Fury through his "retirement" has just earned them all an extra $50m. LOL.
It's insane when people complain about the four belts yet when you offer an alternative that shows a clearer picture about who the real champ is they aren't interested. Insanity
