Eubank Jr. vs Conor Benn is already sold out. It says everything about how great the interest is. Do I smell a return fight outdoors at Wembley next summer ?
The Usyk v Joshua fight still has a decent undercard though. Don’t think matchroom undercards for big events have historically been as bad as the fury whyte one. Was just out of interest really as I’m at work so I won’t be watching anyway.
I think this will be a rigged fight. Too much money in the rematch and I smell something fishy with this rehydration clause
Regarding Junior, he is 32 years of age and only fought for 2 World Titles the last being in 2018. Talks a good game and uses the big names to further his career but never gets in with them until they reach pension age. Connor Benn's career exactly the same to date. Got more respect for Martin Murray than either of these two Charlatans as this fighting man fought for many World Titles as underdog and away from home. The list includes Gennady Golovkin in his prime while Eubank filled his Adam Ants with brown stuff and lost his Armani Pen.
I agree with you. Neither of them really need this fight,do they? Eubank coming out with all this talk about having a grudge with Conor's dad for injuring his own dad's tongue - this is boxing! Injuries happen.
Eddie hearn and DAZN are the ones who need this fight and have pushed it non stop behind the scenes. Hearns latest interview says a lot. If DAZN had secured AJ Vs Usyk 2, I highly doubt this fight would be happening
There was a time in the not too distant past when this fight was inconceivable- but with the state of boxing in 2022 and the rise and rise of gimmick fights, YouTube boxers, general ineptness and corruption as well as promoter and fighter greed being at an all time high this should not really come as a surprise to us. I think the two fighters involved would be two of the most likely in British boxing to do something like this. It's a circus and to an extent a freak show fight but I am curious like everyone else. My first thoughts were that this shows Eddie Hearn who is no mug knows very well how limited Benn is and how low his ceiling is in terms of Euro/World Level. You don't put a 26 year old with momentum, an undefeated record and a good degree of marketability in a fight with a much bigger, much stronger, much tougher fighter in a different weight class if you have confidence of him winning titles at 147. I think it's a strange move, as this fight will 100% still be there in 2 years time. I think Conor losing at elite level at 147 would make close to zero difference to the money or interest level so it's a really strange one. I'm also surprised Benn's team i.e. Tony Simms said yes to this at this stage. It's a needless risk, done purely for money- by a fighter who is not short of money at all, and probably never will be. So on that basis it makes little sense. For Eubank it makes a lot more sense as he is 33 years old in a few weeks time and let's face it he is nowhere near a world title fight and has resorted to calling out the likes of Jake Paul. I do actually think Eubank Jnr. has more talent and ability then Benn but he is easily one of the most frustrating fighters to watch as he style is just so bizarre and confused- he wasted a lot of his natural ability by not getting himself a top coach from the start so he boxing never evolved. With all that said... I am picking Eubank Jnr, KO or at least TKO round 7-8. I think a weight drained Eubank still has enough in the tank to hurt and stop him. Conor won't be able to bide his time and box on the back foot as he is so much smaller, he will need to close the distance and his lack of finesse will see him eating big shots on the way in. If he throws caution to the wind and tries to swarm Eubank, he will get caught flush and knocked out. His 'come forward' style is perfect for Eubank who does not like to chase a fighter as he is not good at distance control and does not have great feet/balance when he has to close gaps. In the circumstance of Benn getting badly knocked out I actually don't see a re-match. But then again I also don't see Eubank retiring if he loses, despite the inevitable embarrassment. He is a very thick skinned fighter despite his obvious vanity, he will carry on and try to find another money fighter somewhere.
Shhh. You can’t utter the word subscribers and dazn. This fight alone with the next AJ fight win or lose will put DAZN into a profit position in the UK come 2023.
connor benn might aswell get away from 147. He would make a good fight with stanionis or thurman but hes not on the level of spence, crawford, boots, ortiz, ellis, or rocha. Not even close. Look at him hit the bag. Guy is super green and crude as hell.
As a boxing fan I’d want to see an undercard, but this is a fight for the casuals and they won’t watch the undercard anyway. I’m sure Hearn will want to keep the show half decent but it won’t affect the gate one bit.
Neither of them need this. Neither of them also want to fight an elite fighter in their weight class. This is also a big fight despite all its issues
