    Songs that were popular during a champions reign. For an example, The Beatles first big hit on Feb 25 1964 was I Want To Hold Your Hand when Muhammad Ali beat Sonny Liston. Let's hear some memories and see what songs were popular of your favorite fighters era.

    Dr. Dre & Snoop’s “Nuthin But a G Thang” was a huge hit in early 93’ (released in late 92’)

    Gerald McClellan came out to it in one of his fights around this time frame.

    When @Richard M Murrieta played junior high baseball, his walk-up music (played by a fiddler on a hay bale) was the new release “Camptown Races.”

    When Muhammad Ali's last title defense against Zora Folley on March 22 1967, the no.1 song was Penny Lane, by The Beatles. When Ali returned on Oct 26 1970 against Jerry Quarry, the no. 1 hit was I'll Be There by The Jackson 5. When Floyd Patterson won the World Heavyweight Title on Nov 30 1956 with a KO 5 over Archie Moore, Love Me Tender by Elvis Presley was the no. 1 song. I don't believe that on June 26 1959 that Ingo did ever love anyone tender in his title win over Floyd Patterson but the no. 1 song was The Battle Of New Orleans by Johnny Horton.

    To do a little nostalgic kitsch of the past, but anyways. Some things which I like and associate with the first half of the 60s (Let's say around Sonny Liston's title reign: 62 to 64):

    I think there was something like wanderlust among the population for exotic holiday paradises (Hawaii, Caribbean, etc.). It was also the time of the beautiful, exotic Cadillacs. Perhaps at that time was the very first beginnings of modern mass tourism (but I am not sure about that).

    - It was the time of surf music, especially the The Beach Boys (Surfin' 1961, Surfin' Safari 1962, Surfin' USA + Surfer Girl + Hawaii 1963, All Summer Long 1964.....)
    - The very first and legendary James Bond movie: Dr. No (1962) with traditional Jamaican Calypso, "Under the Mango Tree" etc.
    - "Fun in Acapulco" (1963) starring Elvis Presley + the song of the same title
    - Flipper TV series (1964)....

    I wonder if Sonny Liston took his wife Geraldine dancing to the Beach Boys with Frankie Carbo and Blinky Palermo as their escorts. Lol.

    The no 1 song on Feb 16 1970 when Joe Frazier stopped Jimmy Ellis in round 5 to win the WBA title was Thank You(Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again) By Sly And The Family Stone.

    The No. 1 song on Feb. 14, 1951, the day Ray Robinson executed Jake LaMotta in the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, was Patti Page’s version of The Tennessee Waltz.

    That was some dance Ray invited Jake to.

    The no. 1 song on March 8 1971 was One Bad Apple by The Osmonds. That night, Champion Joe Frazier defended his undisputed World Heavyweight Title against challenger Muhammad Ali in what has been known as The Fight Of The Century. Ali was stripped of his title and boxing license on April 28 1967, both Frazier and Ali were undefeated at the time of this meeting.

    When Sonny Liston won the title on Sept 26 1962 by knocking out champion Floyd Patterson by KO 1, the number 1 song was Sherry by The Four Seasons. When Liston defended the title against Patterson on July 22 1963, the no. 1 song was Surf City by Jan and Dean.

    Another great thread concept Rich!

    I always liked the Stones: ONE HIT TO THE BODY - nice little blood pumper.

    Absolutely made to complement boxing vision. Right out of the gates I believe that’s a still of Basilio vs DeMarco at about 19 sec. Later there is vision of Hearns right to to Duran that nearly decapitated Roberto.

    This was released some years back but Mick and the Boys were already looking long in the tooth - the lippy and mascara ain’t foolin’ any one. LOL.
