Angeloo dundee vs blackburn for the best boxing trainer

We know that in a fight prime chappie would beat the **** out of Angelo dundee lol but Who you pick as the best boxing trainer and cornerman?

 

Trainer is obviously Ray Arcel. Corner man is either Dundee or Steward, stewart, Steward.

Can somebody else go?

 

I wouldn’t limit the greatest boxing trainer to just these two guys. Trainers such as Futch, D’Amato, and Arcel are other great ones.

 

Blackburn was a better trainer than Dundee, in the sense that he could improve a fighter much more.

 

I'd rather have Dundee in the corner though. Never know when some loose ropes or a split glove might come in handy. Never know when somebody might be blowin' it.

 

there is probably not a real thing such as great trainer. only great boxers. & good trainers. is nice that young man respect his elder. but is him making the win in reality

 

Agreed .. Dundee was really more of a manager/match maker and motivator ..

 

Freddie Brown built Duran but Arcel gets the credit. Brown did the gym work and Arcel showed up long enough for Brown to teach him the fight plan and work the corner. Which is in no way meant to diminish the knowledge of Arcel, that is just how it was.
It works that way sometimes. In my relationship with my partner in the boxing game, I do all the day to day gym work. He has trained an Olympian, a PanAmerican games winner and 3 world champions and I consider him the best trainer that nobody has ever heard of. But he admires the way I teach and my attention to detail and I am always awestruck by how, after watching for a week, he gets in the ring and ties it all together in a couple of rounds.
Many relationships work like that. Robert Garcia works the corner but the knowledge of his father is what brings people to his gym, that and good sparring.

 

I’d say Gil could be in the run. Cus gets a lot of mileage out of Tyson. Emile was better, much, much, much better as a boxer and he only had one man training him. I think Emile is also superior to Duran so he could etch Brown…

 

Gil’s work with Emile or Browns with Duran. Which do you think was superior? Careful this is a test!

 

Out of Blackburn and Angelo? Well Angelo’s supposed prodigy HW Ali was the most flawed running on fumes HW champion in history there about. Joe Louis could be studied by anyone at any weight and benefit. Ray Leonard belong to different coaches, Angelo had connections that was it as far as I know.

 

That is a loaded question.
Gil started Emile Griffith, from day one. Taught him how to stand, how to hold his hands. I have always admired that. For a long time that was my gold standard, to start a guy and take him all the way.
Duran had some skill, a foundation in place and Freddie Brown took that and polished it and the result was DURAN.

These days that means more to me because I am sick to death of teaching people how to stand and hold their hands. I would much prefer to have a guy that has been boxing for a while and then teach him how to really do it.
But I can't say anything bad about either of them because I have learned a ton from them.

 

Charley Goldman.
He started with a small, fat, awkward, rank novice who posted a 9-4 resume in the amateurs. and painstakingly molded him into a very formidable fighter, the stories are legion of Rocky tripping over his own feet, being humiliated by his early sparring partners, reporters and pundits shaking their heads in disbelief and amusement, assuring Goldman this sows ear, will not turn into a silk purse, did little Charlie pay any heed, he most certainly did not.
Hours and hours, days, weeks, months, Goldman implored the stumpling, clumsy, fighter to keep his guard up, not to have his feet too close together, to pressurise sparring partners into the ropes, not follow passively, on realisation that Marciano wouldnt or couldnt avoid the punches coming his way, due to a reluctance of head movement, both up and down, and side to side, strung a rope from one corner post diagonally to the other, and implored Rocky to move up and under, up and over, the rope in a vain attempt to get him to mobilise his head, only after months of such maneuvers did Goldman finally see a glimmer of improvement in his willing but crude fighter, so yes for me little ole gnome like former bantamweight , Charley Goldman was a stellar coach, up with the best.
