Total disapointment. I thought Zhang won the fight 115-112 and should have been given the nod. Hrg isnt champion material. Hope they have a rematch.
Somebody in here called Hrgovic "the bogeyman of the HW division." I told him he DKSAB. I predicted Zhang to win so i was wrong but i think i was pretty on point with predicting Hrgovic looking bad and being overrated in general. Hrgovic is out of shape at 240+ pounds. He should get back to 225.
I never bought into the hype, but Hrgovic looked like a future gatekeeper in this bout. He showed some moxie to come back late (I still thought he lost), but the physical attributes aren't there for him to be a true champion.
Hrgović's chin is certainly very good. Zhang can bang and the Croat ate plenty of good belts to the head. But, yes, some have overrated him as a package.
People just get too excited about some fighters some time. You can’t hype someone to the moon until they have had some good wins.
I think he learned more from this fight than from all his 14 previous. He's discovered flaws that he maybe didn't know about but he did rally late on, so showed guts. Chin held up although he was shaken up and dropped.
Yeah, I thought Zhang would win. I felt he did. It's not that Hrgovic isn't good, it's just that people underrated Zhang because he had a draw vs Forrest after a medical issue. Zhang was a better amateur than Hrgovic and he was very accomplished in those ranks. Olympic silver medalist, amateur world medalist, 2x Olympian, KOd Parker straight. Which is insane, Parker has a granite chin, and Zhang did this in amateur gloves. And look, Zhang was clearly taller and had a much bigger frame than Hrgovic. 6'7 277 pounds is perfect for the pro ranks for a puncher. I think Zhang would beat quite a few guys in the top 10. He beat Hrg (in the ring top 10), he'd beat Ortiz (Ring top 10), Whyte (Ring top 10), he did KO Ruiz and Parker and I think he would again (Ring top 10), and he definitely has chances due to styles to put out Joshua.
Jesus wept! Zhang is a 277lb man mountain with nasty KO power and very few HWs wouldn't have been in serious trouble after eating some of those bombs of his, and in quick succession many times too He landed an absolutely murderous full power backhand in one of the rounds that sounded like a gunshot. When you see shots like that land the next thing you see immediately after is the opponent fast asleep on the canvas. He went 12 rounds and got hit flush plenty by one of the very hardest punchers in the division who was much heavier than him.
I thought Hrgovic and Zhang both fought great. And I thought both showed great chins. It was a better fist fight than the main event. Hrgovic looked a little buzzed at times, but he took all those shots well and came back harder. Compared to Hrgovic and Zhang, I didn't think Usyk or Joshua looked all that impressive. Usyk looked much older and seemed to be throwing a lot of arm punches. He didn't take the body punches well at all from Joshua. And Joshua never looked worse. He seems terrified of taking a punch and didn't take the ones all that well that he did absorb. I was more impressed with both Hrgovic and Zhang tonight than I was in any of their previous fights. They were well matched. I think Hrgovic is going to be tough for anyone to actually beat. He lets his hands go. He's pretty accurate. And he takes a great shot. Future champ. Definitely.
