A lot more sportsmanship was expected from AJ. Wilder was always viewed as an emotional unintelligent clown therefore his excuses towards losing was not surprising but AJ has badly hurt his own image and brand here and has proven Dillian Whyte right in the end.
Classless displays from both of them. Shameful really. I highly doubt Joshua will carry it for as long as Wilder that was really something
Wrong on many counts. Joshua picked up two belts and dropped them to the floor of the ring. Not five and not out of the ring. He shared holding the Ukraine flag aloft with Usyk in good cheer and later repeatedly stated what a great performance Usyk had made. He was not in a tug of war over the flag with Usyk. He said to Usyk, without the microphone in hand, that "skill beats strength", "how did you beat me? you're not strong. It was skill." He was making the point, which he later elaborated on when he did have the microphone in hand, that he did not box from early childhood and implied that was to his disadvantage. While on the microphone he was honest enough to say that he did not know what was happening in Ukraine, but he understood it was difficult and that domestic warfare and conflict is a spur to athletic performance - as in the case of Lomachenko and Vitali Klitschko. Usyk was the deserved winner and I'm not a particular fan of Joshua, but what you presented was a complete pile of bull****.
He made a statement alright. From grabbing Usyk's belts and tossing them out of the ring, to grabbing Usyk's flag and not wanting to give it back, to grabbing the mic and insisting he be the center of attention (like he did when Ruiz beat him), to saying he 'didn't know what was going on in the Ukraine' bet let me take the flag from a guy who actually had gone over there and fought and WRAP myself in it ... the statement seemed to be: "That's MINE. MINE. MINE. MINE." Usyk had had quite enough of it. He was the winner. Joshua just thought if he trained harder they'd give it to him. He's shocked they didn't. But everyone doesn't get a medal, Anthony. You're 24-3.
Wilder was comprehensively beaten in an absolute whitewash. He spent the next 12 months digging up every imaginable excuse for why he lost. He fired his decades long trainer and cornerman and accused him of being complicit with the "enemy", accused him of drugging him (spiking his water) and prematurely throwing in the towel in a fight where he (Wilder) was getting smashed to bits. He appeared on multiple podcasts and media interviews to claim that Fury's gloves were loaded either with plaster, exposed knuckles or some kind of metal implement. He accused Fury of being a drug cheat and even claimed the referee was involved in cheating him. Let's not forget he also claimed the loss was down to an injury to his bicep, which puts the fault on him and negates all the other rubbish he spewed. That's not a problem for Deontay because he was barely in touch with reality. Fortunately in the third fight Fury was able to completely reconnect Wilder with reality in thudding fashion.
