After the first fight where he was beaten like a ginger step kid, he must have known in his heart that unless the dodgiest of decisions went his way there was close to zero chance of him winning on points. The plan for last night should have been to forget the judges, forget point deductions, just get in there and fight dirty, drag Usyk down side streets that he's never walked before, heads, elbows, thumbs in eyes, punches to the bollix, leaning, rabbit punching, anything you can get away with without being DQd, don't let Usyk get into his stride, if you are second best technically then fight the man like you are mugging him, if you go there all guns blazing put your heart and soul and the devil's fire into it you either bash the man to bits or you lose... You were going to lose any way so why not just go orrible on him.
He was actually hanging in there technically. He lost it when he tried to march forward and make it a dog fight. He gambled in round 9 and paid for it, such is life.
I just think it's not as easy as it looks to go all dog mode on Usyk and rough him up and use your size on him. The guy just does not stop moving. AJ would have got peppered with shots if he tried to do what everyone suggested. His constant movement and fluidity is just too much for move in straight lines AJ.
I love this concept that you can just walk through the punches of elite level fighters and jump all over them and not get pinged all around the ring.
I think the gameplan was actually quite good, slightly more aggressive and going to the body. I knew he was going to lose once he emptied the tank trying to stop Usyk. He should of sat back after hurting Usyk in the 9th knowing he’d won the round, he then just needed to nick 2 out of the last 3 to win, but he had no chance to do it after gassing out in the 9th.
Wilder did or at least he tried and came pretty damn close. But Joshua isn't Wilder now is he? Wilder has heart, Joshua is just an 18 stone heavyweight that can't throw combinations like Rocky Marciano.
He doesn’t have the gas tank or defence to just plough forward I don’t understand why people can’t get that in there heads. also he just couldn’t land enough to actually break usyk down, usyk is just the better boxer and fighter.
I don’t agree. Clear key to victory for Joshua was to target the body and he did it well. His gameplan would have worked if he had a bit more in the tank in the latter part of round 9 and then 10. Usyk is just simply a much better boxer and it’s no disgrace to lose to the better man.
It has been said before no chin, no stamina, no heart and he was more interested in not exposing all three again relying on 2-3 Terry O'Connor cards to get the win. If Tony Dosh PPV went IN the ring with the same mindset he LEFT the ring then things may have been different if he threw the kitchen sink early on.
Agree and that also made it pointless to go 12 rounds as only corruption on the cards could win the fight for him then. Should have entered the ring in the mindset that he left the ring, threw his lot in the first 3 rounds then throw in the towel by the end of rounds 3-4 when he had nothing left.
Yeah they waited till the 9th to fully throw the kitchen sink because then he could just go into survival mode for last 3 rounds and not get stopped that’s way I saw that game plan. One of the big problems jurgen in both fights for me is when aj conclusively won a round and I’m not talking a swing round or a judge corruption round I’m talking a proper conclusive round Usyk would then just go step on the gas and win the next 3.
Clear key to victory is to fight dirty! Rough Usyk up. Clinch, spit, bite, push and then clinch some more! That's how you beat boxers like Usyk, you make it as rough and dirty as you possibly can. Joshua doesn't know how to do that but a certain Tyson Fury lives for that shite. Tactics all wrong again. Garcia with all due respect has never trained a heavyweight and it showed. Different ball game.
You don't just plough forward and start swinging. You push him back, you hold and push him into the corners/ropes. Ffs it's a fight, it's not figure skating.
Joshua's power is grossly overrated and every stoppage has been either against a very old man or a complete pudding. Usyk knew it as well. I rate Joshua around the same level as Slugger Whyte and Pudding Chisora with Earn working wonders to convince the public he was better than Lennox Lewis etc.
Tbf he did fight a bit dirty at times but maybe not to the extent he should have. Hit Usyk low quite hard at one point and in the 9th when he was on top launched a hammer fist onto the top of Usyk’s head.
