He’d never be the GOAT LHW. I doubt he’d beat a prime Archie or Charles as he was. I think Ezzard could toy with him.
Hard to say but I don’t think someone as big as Canelo is, is a natural 160lbs fighter when he’s always been about 170lbs in his 20s? Wasn’t he 16 in his debut?
Canelo has the stocky frame to add another 10 lbs without becoming fat or sluggish. That doesn't make him a natural light heavyweight. His track record in that weight class isn't exactly awe inspiring, he beat up a completely washed up fragile Kovalev and got taken to school by Bivol. Canelo could easily make 160-168 while in his 30's without starving himself and retained his strength and stamina.
Atleast with Rocky, they could put up a fight with speed and reach advantages. Stylisticly Patterson would just be awful.
Patterson could make 175lbs today. Imagine that, someone like Andre Ward coming up against Floydy boy.
Canelo has been coming in at over 180 in the ring for years I think, he might well be a heavyweight in Floyd’s era. Those thinking he’s not ‘big enough’ for light heavyweight, I assume the likes of Beterbiev are over 190 in the ring themselves. Bivol can apparently make 168, but it’s pretty obvious he’s about 185-190 in the ring at least. I’d favour Floyd but the ‘he’d spark Canelo inside of five rounds’ when Canelo has shown himself to be excellent defensively and ludicrously durable are just more rose tinted specs.
