Usyk is beginning enormously overrated. If Joshua had let his hands go he would’ve won imo

    Punches Usyk Joshua
    Total landed 170 124
    Total thrown 712 492
    Percent 24% 25%
    Jabs landed 39 23

For comparison, below are the punch stats from Bowe vs Holyfield which most consider to be one of the better heavyweight title fights over the last 30 years. Joshua losing was not because he didn't let his hands go. He threw more punches than Bowe did in Bowe's win over Holyfield. Uysk is simply a freak of nature.

Evander Holyfield vs. Riddick Bowe (1st meeting)
    Jabs Holyfield Bowe
    Percent 39% 53%
    Power Punches Holyfield Bowe
    Landed 179 225
    Thrown
    314 463

    Very good!
But why do you think that on Saturday, both fighters landed a dramatically lower percentage of their blows?

I think it was because it was a more tactical fight as opposed to a war like Bowe Vs Holyfield. Definitely not apples to apples. For every punch Joshua threw he received two in return. He definitely played the role of a counter puncher but in round ten after he was hurt in round nine, Uysk went after Joshua and threw 97 punches according to compubox. He fought a very Evanderesque round in the 10th and literally took Joshua's heart in the process. One very interesting thing about how Uysk fights is he doesn't throw a lot of punches early. He is very defensive and then starts to go nuts in the latter rounds.

Bowe vs Holyfield was a fight where both men would forget about their deep amateur pedigrees and bang away at each other. The percentages were higher because both guys made themselves more available by brawling. I have always thought Evander would have been better served boxing Bowe but he would always end up trading with him. Great for us fans but not his best decision tactically against a man that big.

Usyk is "hearding" while minimising how much he got hit. Bowe and Holyfield went to war.

Was surprised by it, but You got it a little wrong brother. You gave total punches on Joshua vs Usyk - but power punches on Holy vs Bowe I.
Actual stats on Holyfield vs Bowe are (Landed/Thrown)
    Bowe - 357/711
    Holyfield - 242/475

So Bowe threw about exactly same number as Usyk... Pretty amazing when You think about it, He was a big guy.

Another thing to take into consideration, I believe bigger half of Usyk's punches are just throw-off shots, They are not meant to land - while basically everything Bowe threw would be with full force and bad intentions.

Crap, I missed that. Tough copying and pasting from my phone lol. You are correct that a lot of what Uysk does is misdirection. He is a pure boxer where prime Bowe kind of did it all although he had a tendency to brawl when he shouldn't and ultimately paid the price for it.

I wonder how many people that talk about weight training have watched boxers lift. Just about all of it is shirty egolifts. Every "deadlift" is a sloppy rack pull

Just looking at a few of them, the rating seem incredibly dubious, like saying weighifting doesn't require much speed compared to rowing.

The two decimal places is hilarious.

I think you've got them stats wrong, I looked at Bowe vs Holyfield 1 stats recently, and I think your find Bowe threw over 700 punches vs Holyfield.

And as for Usyk's stats while that looks Impressive on paper, the difference is Bowe and Holyfield threw every punch to hurt the other man. Unlike Usyk who was poking out the punches mostly, I'm not discrediting Usyk BTW. But there is a big difference in type of punches Usyk threw, compared to Holyfield and Bowe.

Instead of throwing out insults, you can actually throw fourth your opinions and tell me exactly why you disagree you clowns.
Thank you guys for responding respectfully, not resorting to insults like children, and actually arguing your position. As others have posted your stats aren't exactly correct but even if they were, their were numerous moments Joshua had Usyk hurt or landed a good punch he failed to follow up on, perhaps most notably in the last round, when the commentators brought up he wouldn't let his hands go and failed to take advantage of excellent opportunities and that had been a recurring them throughout the fight, with a notable exception in the 9th round.

I believe ever since he'd been knocked out by Ruiz, he's been afraid to let his hands go to much.

    Stats certainly don't back this.

Joshua threw 100 more power punches at Usyk than at Wladimir, fighting just one extra round, by punchstats.
