It wasn’t. Good footwork looks like Louis, Ali was a mess fundamentally and that’s why he got tagged at will constantly. Norton hit him tons, Max Foster, Bonavena, Shavers, Frazier, Chuvalo… Need I go on? If he had sound footwork he wouldn’t be getting hit as often as he did. It all starts at the feet and Ali got by on his chin as much as Chuvalo did.

This is a pretty funny fight. I’ve never seen a boxer react to a punch like Dunn. He didn’t go down but he just wobbled a bit.

LOL, I thought this might’ve been a trick question - as such I was thinking of Tyson vs Holmes. Ali whispered his prediction to Mike and Mike then fulfilled the prophecy.

No disrespect to Dunn but there were some funny moments - sometimes Richard wavered as if his feet were nailed to the canvas - cartoon fashion. In another instance, Dunn dropped all the way down to his haunches - not quite officially down and Ali looked on - bemused.

Then as Dunn straightened to come back up from his crouched position he threw a sneaky jab at Ali - it didn’t connect IIRC but Dunn’s unique “move” only served to increase the bemused look on Ali’s face. LOL.

In all truth and respect, Dunn was super courageous, gave it his all and by all accounts was a very nice fellow.

I do yes, but honestly it wasn’t unique to him even. He just made the most obvious “loud” movements.

-He was not tagged at will constantly. Ali had superb footwork and reflexes at his best and many blows that landed were glancing blows he slipped.
-All those fights were post 70's when his reflexes and athleticism had gone down. Barely anyone could touch 60's Ali.
-Norton and Frazier were stylistic nightmares.
-Louis got hit and knocked down more than Ali.
-Ali was hard to corner and cut the ring off from. Only Frazier and Foreman managed to successfully cut off the ring when he used his legs. That's 4 fights out of more than 60. The purpose of footwork is to maintain your preferred range/pace and he accomplished that nearly anytime he moved so your statement that he had "bad footwork" is false.

Nonsense and excuses. You’re the most offending cultist here. I can watch fights of Ali and see him get tagged constantly prime or not if they were good fighters and not old, bad or shot they hit him a bunch. The “Ali myth” of the 60s was created because of how poor his opposition was. In the 70s he just happened to be fighting better guys. But I’m sure you’ll have some long winded hyperbole and myths to preach to me.

Nothing I wrote was long winded or hyperbolic. You either can't refute what I said or you chose not to. None of what you wrote is a valid response.

It's interesting that our friend casually skips over the fact that Ali, your quintessential reflex fighter and reflexes slow with age, was now over thirty in the seventies and was robbed of three and one half years of his athletic prime by various boxing commissions. All one needs to do is look how ordinary Roy Jones Jr. was once his reflexes waned.

Somehow I'm using "hyperbole" and "making excuses" pointing out Ali's reflexes and speed had gone down in the 70's. I'm not even the first or 50th person to point this out, it's common knowledge. Ali's own opponents such as Chuvalo and Patterson observed that he used to be much faster and harder to hit, but what do they know?

I was aware of Bruce Lee. How could you live through that era and not be? Interestingly Kareem who knew both Bruce Lee and Ali well took exception to Tarentino's depiction of him. I respect your opinion but to me he made Lee look like a clown and he isn't around to defend himself. Lee's daughter took exception too. That being said I love Tarantino's work from Reservoir Dogs to Pulp Fiction to Django...

Our friend is correct in pointing out that the level of his competition improved in the seventies. What he omits Is Ali realized his greatest triumphs as his other worldly athleticism was failing.

    Those people are idiots.

A 5'8 140 pound man (even Bruce Lee) isn't going to beat a taller guy 70+ lbs heavier unless the taller guy is a random bum off the street with no skills. If the big guy is also a skilled fighter, he is winning 9/10 outside of a punchers chance/fluke accident like tripping on a rock or something. No, he is not beating Ali in a fight, and he certainly can't punch as hard as most light heavyweights, let alone heavyweights such as Liston, Frazier, etc.

Lee would make for one hell of a welterweight in boxing or a lightweight in UFC if he got time to adjust to the rules and train with modern coaches. Guy was definitely skilled, had blinding speed, and certainly hit above his weight. I always thought hypothetical fights between him and Pacquiao, Leonard, Khabib, Conor, etc would be fascinating to watch.

In regards to Lee's brash personality, that is true. He could get overconfident and boastful. But it's also true Lee had a more grounded, down to Earth side to him. He was human and intelligent, mature adults usually have layers and nuance to them. He wasn't a meek, mannered monk, but he wasn't an overly egotistical, delusional cartoon character the way some games and movies try to portray him either.

As for Tarantino, eh, Tarantino has a lot of personal issues with Lee. I think he has a chip on his shoulder and his depiction of Lee was mean spirited like he had a bone to pick with the guy. If he wanted to make a meta character who was simply a representation of overconfident martial arts blowhards, he didn't need to use an actual person with living relatives (he could have made up a character). This video can explain it better than I can:

Every post of yours is a tragic recounting of the old propaganda fed to you by the 70s. Your hero’s are overrated clowns and there wouldn’t be anything I can say to remedy your spiritual love for them.

I’m part of an Occult group, does that count? I only got into it because they said it involved shapely, naked women, with huge cauldrons, dancing around in forests.
