I agree, Tarantino’s treatment of Lee came across more as a personal axe grind than a broader point being made - I believe Tarantino admitted to as much.

As to Once upon a time….I was disappointed. Usually his films are quite original - but this was dusting off the concept used to far greater and original effect in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS.

I know some elevate Lee into a fantasy realm - that doesn’t bother me and certainly Lee himself quantified himself far more realistically. Am I missing something because otherwise Lee seemed like a nice, charismatic guy? - no harm, no foul.

I was born in 1989. Didn't watch a single 70's fight until I was 17 on YouTube. Ali is not even my favorite fighter.

This is also not a valid response and an appeal to ridicule. Was this supposed to hurt my feelings? You have a strange obsession with heavyweights and are always throwing shade at nearly every opportunity. Napoleon complex perhaps? I'm not even the only one whose noticed lol.

Let me know when you're ready to actually address what I wrote.

Lee was chill as hell. Taught students of all races including African Americans (and apparently even argued with his fellow Chinese about it). Had all kinds of friends from various fields and all walks of life. Smoked weed every now and then and was pretty open minded. Most people say he could be very charming, down to Earth, and didn't go around picking fights nor was he quick to anger. He also gave credit to other people he sparred and trained with and even though he had a high opinion of himself, didn't call himself the best fighter on the planet or claimed he could beat dozens of men at once. He was always willing to learn new things and asked for advice from fellow martial artists.

Why did Tarantino dislike Bruce Lee?

Jack Dempsey is my favourite fighter depending on the week. I also have called Joe Louis one of the greatest mechanical wonders in boxing in spite of weight I don’t hate HWs just most of them because it’s the watered down version of what boxing should be.

It doesn’t matter what I say to you, you’re so close minded and stuck in an echo chamber that the very idea of anything other then what your scrolls say will just go over your head or be met with this blatant stupidity.

I recall reading that Lee was periodically challenged by other martial artists or plain thugs looking to knock over the recognised “top dog.”

Apparently Lee would take up these challenges and prevail each and every time.

The interesting thing was that it was also said that Lee didn’t always “romantically” engage in a manner true to the martial arts rule book.

Rather, Lee also employed whatever “street moves” were required to emerge the victor.

I don’t mention that as a criticism.rather, I think it would be naive to think he wouldn’t stray from the “chosen path” whenever necessary, LOL. -

Particularly since it was also mentioned that some of the antagonists were somewhat larger than Lee himself - which statistically goes without saying I guess given Lee’s own size.

I’m not saying all or any of this is necessarily true - but I have heard/read same.

I am not in an echo chamber nor am I close minded. I made threads in the general forum with dozens of posters ganging up on me and I stood my ground. I have argued back and forth with multiple people in classic as well. I can't be blinded by nostalgia because the fighters you're accusing me of being nostalgic for were retired before I was even born you idiot. Stop using buzz words you don't know the definitions of and trying to play arm chair psychologist, you're way off the mark and it's hilarious.

Good job admitting you hate most heavyweights lol. You just proved my point. How tall are you by the way?

This has nothing to do with me supposedly being biased or unable to entertain other ideas. You either are too lazy to respond, or you simply do not have the ability to refute what I wrote so you're hiding behind ad hominems and a bunch of other dumb tirades irrelevant to the conversation.

Lee did not condemn fighting dirty and sometimes admitted to fighting dirty. For example, I believe in the Wong Jackman fight he tried some eye gouging maneuvers. Lee was all about using techniques that were practical to actual survival scenarios and street combat, not flashy moves that look good on camera. He was fascinated by Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and encouraged people to learn grappling techniques because he knew you couldn't always count on stand up techniques in a chaotic street fight. Lee was actually involved in a lot of those when he was younger and it was part of the reason his family signed him up for martial arts. He had a bad temper and they were worried about him hurting others or himself.

Bruce Lee and Brad Pitt's character were tied when their fight was broken up in Once Upon A Time... Apropos of nothing his cameo in Twelve Years A Slave which he produced was great. The hooker scene he did with James Gandolfini was good too.

I know Steven Seagal has background but if they want to parody someone…..have you seen the way that man runs in his films? LOL.

Don’t know if you’ve watched The Goldbergs but, if I didn’t know better, I’d swear the old brother Barry’s running form was modelled on Nico. Talk about self emasculating. Haha.

They usually do the full Monty, ritualistic sign ups each full moon.

That’s when you spiritually and physically become “one” with all the female members of the coven for the first time. It lasts for hours and hours…..until dawn breaks if you yourself haven’t already flagged out before that time.

Personally, I found the latter “union” the most rewarding though the spiritual bonding has its merits (or at least you should pretend it does or they’ll boot you out for false pretences).

To touch base - you could fly by the seat of your pants (or no pants as the case maybe) and check your local woods at about half past midnight for a weekly coven meeting of Wiccans to book yourself in for sign up.

That would be every Tuesday - half an hour into the morn of that day.

Otherwise, check your directory for your local PAGAN Society -( thats: People Against Good And Normalcy) .

They’re the parent company and you can book your sign up appointment through them.

Hopefully this has whet your appetite to join even more so.

Did I just type that out? My wordy lordy, I do believe I just did.

If Ali was merely ordinary as our friend contends why is he a consensus top 1-2 HW and consensus top 10 PFP boxer?

As to heroes and nostalgia Hemingway said, "As you get older it's harder to have heroes but it is sort of necessary."
