Sonny Liston vs Ron Lyle both prime, 15 rounds for the All Corrections Title, the referee is none other than James Scott.

Sounds like a captivating, take no prisoners fight Rich - a fight that should easily cell itself.

The winner gets 2 weeks time out from the “cooler”.

Sonny dismantles Lyle and wins via TKO/KO round 7. Not a parrot in sight.

I'm wondering about Lyle's power compared to Cleveland's.

    Either way, Liston in 5.

I like Sonny big time. Any man tries to trade with a prime Sonny liston is in trouble and Lyle was that kind of dude. The blueprint to beating Sonny was not letting him set his feet. Ali figured that out.

    Good point.

Maybe a good measure of the difference would be the abandon with which Cleve let his hands go.

I know the quality of opp. might’ve been lower but Lyle’s early career KO highlight reel is impressive. Ron didn’t always seem to bring that aggression to the table but then, when put to him (see Shavers and Foreman) it seemed Lyle let the hands go more instinctively, carrying some good durability over the shorter run at least.

If Liston boxes, methodically dismantling Lyle maybe it doesn’t necessarily trigger Lyle enough - but then if Sonny takes it straight to him - (which I don’t think he would if Lyle himself doesn’t initiate as Williams did) then we might have a nice little punch out on our hands - with Liston still prevailing imo.

Liston within 5 rounds. Ron puts up a spirited fight but after taking too many of Sonny's jabs and right crosses gets stopped.

Post fight - James Scott challenges the winner and Lyle referees it.
