Despite turning pro at 23 after 91 amateur bouts and primarily being a boxer-puncher, Lewis couldn't beat 10 of his opponents inside the distance (4 loss streak short notice Ocasio, chinny journeyman Billups, crackhead Tucker, crackhead McCall 1, winless in 30 months inactive Mercer, journeyman-basher vegetarian Mavrovic, faded Holyfield 1, faded Holyfield 2, 20 lbs overweight inactive 5’9 Tua, 8 years boxing experience Rahman 1) and only dropped one of them (Tucker) with 10 of the 34 he beat inside the distance being sub-220 lbs. Lewis never stopped an opponent after the 8th round (strongly suggesting that his stamina/pacing was lacking) and he got one-punch KO’d twice in or around his prime by fringe contenders (a fate befallen by no other reigning champion in any weight class before or since and repeats of his KO3 defeat to Abadzhan in the amateurs; one of Lewis’s 4 listed non-walkover losses to Soviet school fighters out of 11 amateur defeats).

Usyk has an excellent chin (there is no record of Usyk being knocked down with a head shot in his entire 376 fight career) engine, speed, agility, co-ordination, balance, ring IQ, focus, heart, confidence, determination, experience, southpaw stance, holistic skills, is an undefeated, undisputed cruiserweight champion (the first of the four belt era) unified heavyweight champion and P4P No.1.

Manny Steward stated that Wlad was a superior athlete to Lewis, more intelligent, more experienced, naturally bigger, more powerful and better in most technical respects, as well as more athletic, far less injury prone, more experienced, far more powerful and more fundamentally sound than Vitali: the same Wlad that Usyk was able to “boss” and “twist up” in sparring (one of many SHW’s, Vitali included, that Usyk has sparred or fought). Lewis couldn’t get the better of Bruno until Bruno’s engine and chin predictably gave out the 7th, he couldn’t get the better of greenhorn Rahman 1 prior to getting KO’d in the 5th, he was 4-2 down and fatigued against late replacement B-side contender SHW Vitali after 6 when the fight was inconclusively stopped on cuts and he reneged on his post-fight promise to give Vitali a rematch.

Lewis, Wlad and Fury sparring partner, amateur standout and 42 pro fight veteran Scott stated that Usyk was the most skilled boxer he’d ever shared a ring with. Lewis would try to bring the fight to Usyk while being outboxed but he wasn’t able to overpower a number of smaller fighters. The short and stocky warhorse fringe contender Mercer (12 months inactive, 0-1-1 and robbed a 7-9-2 journeyman in one of his two fights in the previous 30 months, knocked down in his previous fight, in the midst of a 0 KO’s in 6 fights streak) outjabbed “prime” Lewis and fought him to a MD, with no rematch materialising. “Prime” Lewis lost 4 rounds by consensus to 37 year old former 190 pounder Holyfield, who had been KO’d by a faded Bowe 4 years prior and was on the cusp of losing to John Ruiz. “Prime” Lewis also struggled with and gassed against the 214 lbs light punching domestic and area level basher vegetarian Mavrovic.

To top it all off, Lewis never fought a southpaw (even dropping the IBF belt to sidestep Byrd) whereas the 6’3, 220 lbs, 13 year unbeaten, 20-0 modern athlete Usyk recorded a historic P4P win by outclassing A-side three belt unified champion KO artist SHW AJ in AJ’s backyard (Usyk’s 10th time fighting away, which he’s done in 7/9 of his championship fights) as a 5/2 underdog in his 3rd heavyweight pro fight and his first heavyweight championship fight. Usyk repeated this feat in the Saudi rematch, which was contested during the Russo-Ukrainian war. Usyk is the best cruiserweight and southpaw heavyweight of all time so Lewis probably struggles even more than Wlad did, who had far more experience sparring, fighting and beating good southpaw heavyweights than any other heavyweight in history.

Usyk wins by UD (if Lewis didn’t duck).

Decent post, badly let down by the opening sentence. There's really no need to reach so far to put a negative spin on LL's record to make a case for Usyk.

Lewis is a lock-in ATG heavyweight with a tremendous skill set, that's who you're putting Usyk up against - not a Pravda-style summary of his weakest performances...

Lennox is rated entirely by nostalgia. Thus all of the facts listed are not valid criticisms of his H2H skill but "hate". There is no point trying to debate the Lennox worshipers, they won't even try to make arguments for him.

Usyk's HW resume vs Lennox's heavyweight resume.

    End of argument.

A good collection of controversial victories (Vitali, Golota) and old men (Holyfield, Tyson) for sure. We could debate whether or not Joshua would beat 40 year old 210 pound lost over and over Holyfield all day. But there's no point in that. Usyk wasn't beaten by Rahman, McCall, and Mercer and wasn't outboxed by Frank Bruno for 6 straight rounds. If stopped five times Bruno was leading on the cards vs Lennox, what would Usyk do? H2H, it's hard to imagine Lennox outboxing Usyk if he couldn't outbox Mercer and Bruno.

Maybe you are too young to understand the context of the era.
As much as nostalgia can play a part then the opposite is also true.

I guess we'll never know, but the reality is Usyk has never really faced any strong adversity at this weight. Joshua spent most of his 24 rounds wondering what the **** he was doing, and only got aggressive in the 21st round out of 24, and was stupid enough to try and outbox him.

The most adversity Usyk has faced was against Chisora.

I want to see him fight a heavyweight who will go in and try and beat him up with some educated aggression, and try often to land bigger shots.

How well he fairs vs Fury will be interesting, depending on whether or not fury actually gives a **** anymore and bothers to train.

It's a great fight. Slight edge to Usyk.

Lennox is quoted as saying "If you want to stay champion, don't fight southpaws". You can't read that and not give the HW Southpaw GOAT a very good chance.

I'm not arguing that Usyk gets a higher place in the all time HW rankings, that would be absurd. Just that if people have a gun to their head, the rational choice is to pick Usyk in a boxing match.

    What?

Lennox Lewis beat 12 heavyweight champions: Klitschko, Holyfield, Tyson, Rahman, Bruno, Mercer, Morrison, Akinwande, Briggs, Tucker, McCall and Weaver.

Oleksandr Usyk beat ONE heavyweight champion: Joshua.

Lennox Lewis beat heavyweight contenders Tua, Ruddock, Golota, Grant, Mason, etc.

Usyk beat NO top heavyweight contenders.

Usyk beat five cruiserweight champs: Bellew, Gassiev, Briedis, Huck and Glowacki.

Lewis beat two cruiserweight champions: McCrory and Ocasio.

Lennox Lewis beat future Hall of Famer and future World Heavyweight Champion Riddick Bowe in the Olympic Finals.

Oleksandr Usyk beat Clemente Russo in the Olympic Final, who never turned pro. (Is Italy a communist country? Why didn’t Russo turn pro?)

In a 14-year pro career, Lewis only lost two fights. Both were via one-punch KO. And he won both rematches. Lewis never lost a decision.

If you didn't knock out Lennox Lewis with one punch, YOU LOST.

Is Usyk going to one-punch KO Lewis?

Lewis knocked out 32 heavyweights in 40+ fights.

How many heavyweights has Usyk knocked out in 20 pro fights?

I mean, give me a break. Honestly.

I shook my head when i see Ossie Ocasio, imagine bringing up Lewis's 11th professional fight, to try and discredit Lennox Lewis resume that's actually baffling. Hell lets go back to Muhammad Ali's 12th professional fight vs "Don Warner" and use that against Ali aswell ridiculous logic.

He also leaves out alot of context in his posts to fit his opinions for example.

Tony Tucker was 48-1 and hadn't lost since losing a decision to Mike Tyson, and was also ranked number 5.

Ray Mercer went through a rough patch with Jesse Ferguson fight, but rebounded and gave Evander Holyfield one of his toughest fights prior to Lewis fight. Lewis was still rebounding as a fighter after his loss to McCall, and Mercer was considered a tough contender to get Lewis ready for a possible fight for Mike Tyson.

I don't see what Tua's weight has to do with Lewis, Tua was ranked in top 5 and considered a very dangerous one punch KO artist. His only loss at that time was a very close decision to Ibeabuchi, Lewis deserves credit for dominating a very dangerous puncher, i don't see why this win should be discredited.

"Holyfield faded" again without the context, yes Holyfield may of been a bit past his best. But it's not quite as simple as that, Holyfield had been champion for 3 years when he fought Lewis, coming off some of his best wins vs Tyson, Moorer 2, and held two of the belts WBA IBF aswell i might add.

And also notice how he doesn't mention Vitali, Mason, Ruddock, Bruno, Golota, Morrison.
