Usyk was losing for most of the fight, getting outboxed by AJ, before a late comeback rally to eek out a split decision. Very shaky performance by Usyk to need late heroics like that.

Don't be upset with me Serge. I didn't score it, I wasn't one of the judges who had AJ winning. I'm just telling it like it is.

FYI despite the shaky performance for 9 rounds, I was impressed with Usyk's toughness and will to win. To come on late and pull out a close fight is worthy of praise and admiration. But lets also show respect to AJ who gave a thrilling performance and took Usyk into deep waters. Both fighters deserve credit for giving the fans a legendary fight. Nights like that should take boxing to new heights. Even AJ's promo at the end, which many people are criticizing. That was not only entertaining but it showed how genuinely gutted AJ was to come up just short. He put in the work and he came so close, only to be denied by 2 judges. I'd rather see a reaction like that where he showed Usyk respect but also was clearly upset than a fighter who internalizes everything and just walks away like GGG did after losing to Canelo.

Certainly if there was any proper governance of boxing this utter tool would be investigated and struck off from refereeing ever again.

    But won't happen.

This is a nice and well thought out post Over the course of the last few years I really don’t think corruption is that big of an issue in scoring and I think it’s mostly overblown and I come to that conclusion for some of the reasons that you highlighted like the round by round threads on this forum were so many posters see the same fight differently I know everyone has an agenda and those are easy to spot when certain posters score a fight a certain way but there are a lot of posters that don’t have an agenda or post about a fight where their agenda wouldn’t usually be in place and they still have disagreements some of the best fight scorers in those threads will disagree with each other

and I wholly agree with your take on judging and what it takes to do it there was a period where I volunteered and wanted to become a judge and in New Jersey you start at the bottom and you work your way up and I work for a living and it was tough to go to work then go to a boxing card and try to balance friendships relationships and other hobbies and interests around being present at events

And I’ll end with a story about one of the fights I was ringside for not as a judge but during my training there was an amateur fight and it was tied after two rounds and they had five judges sitting ringside at different angles and the majority of the scores would favor a fighter and that fighter would win the round I watched the whole round from my seat and thought the fighter in the blue corner quite clearly won the round but three of the five judges gave it to the red corner obviously nobody is going to be bribing a judge at that level

I’ve just came to the realization overtime that scoring a fight is difficult when in person as opposed to watching it on TV you don’t have camera angles you don’t have commentary helping tell you identify what did and didn’t score and the crowd will definitely affect you. I’m not saying that bad decisions are good I’m just saying that what some people think is a bad decision isn’t necessarily a bad decision just a disagreement on perspective. Boxing is not like other sports where are you score a basket or a run or a point or a touchdown and it has a set value. The nature of the scoring is always going to produce results that people don’t like

All sports are corrupt. Those that depend upon judges are the worst. Everything man has anything to do with is corrupt.
