How could it be a great era if no one fights each other? How do you know anyone is great? Usyk deserves that credit over Fury who seems to duck everyone. Usyk has gone straight for the throats of everyone. Fury has had years to fight AJ and Povetkin the two greatest HWs of his generation and he somehow missed them. Wilder is over rated trash imo. Usyk though I agree is Special.

 

Um, Wilder—Fury trilogy, Joshua—Usyk x 2, Wilder—Ortiz x 2, and Wlad agsinst Fury and Joshua.

 

Where was Fury v Povetkin? Fury v AJ? Wilder v AJ? Wilder v Povetkin? Ruiz v Fury? Wilder v Ruiz? And we can go on….and on. Tell me how many interesting great fights were missed in the 60s down? A few for sure but nowhere on this level where top talent avoided each other like the plague.

 

My thoughts exactly. Wilder is possibly the most overrated contender to ever live. He knocked out one man of quality.

 

Exactly. That's why I don't like the "he looked really good in his three good wins, therefore he would always look like that against anyone". Results like Louis-Schmeling, Ali-Norton, Tyson-Douglas, Lewis-McCall/Rahman would never have been predicted if they hadn't actually happened and they happened because these guys regularly faced good opp.

No one expected fairly low level HWs like Cunningham and Wallin give Fury the problems they did. If Fury had faced, say, 10-15 of the many better HWs during this period, what is to say that one or several of them wouldn't do one better and actually win? Not that much really. That's why I put big value in meeting a large number of the best avalailable and winning.

 

It’s a shame because I really think men like Fury are a matchup nightmare for most people. But his resume is so thin. The Whyte win was a start. He beats Usyk and maybe one more guy would do well for his all time status same for Usyk.

Usyk has only fought Chisora & AJ so what you say makes not much sense.

I see it as an impatience on the part of fans. Instead of letting the boxer prove his greatness over time. They want to anoint them with greatness after the boxer has achieved a couple of great milestones. I am sure I was like that to a small degree when I was much younger.

Well, it's not more than Foreman but I understand your point. I have always thought of Foreman as a great heavyweight but not a great champion. Liston was a very good to great heavyweight but, again, not a great champion. Both Usyk and Fury are working toward that. Certainly, at this point, Fury is much closer than Usyk. He has considerably more wins against good to very good opposition. I think of Usyk in the same way that I think of Gene Tunney. They are all-time greats if not THE all-time greats at a lower weight class but haven't done enough at heavyweight to be consider an all-time great.

 

Based on what exactly? Compare everything both fighters did, with and without a Usyk win, and explain why Fury is just so confidently ahead of Frazier. And not to sound snippy or anything but it would help you to not use arguments like "They just look better, trust me" (without demonstration), and "They're bigger and stuff".

Also no i'm not gonna derail the thread by talking about h2h. Just in terms of greatness.

but a mouth piece with NO Real Opponents bar ONE, who is trying to say "He's the Best!" well with eitherside of 35 fights a True Champion should have atleast a couple of greats and another 4 - 5 TOP Names, At Least, NO?
