I’ll go with Calzaghe. If Usyk and Calzaghe were at the same weight I’m confident Calzaghes awkward style would best Usyks more classic boxing style.
This content is protected I have it on good authority that Roy, having read your post about a 50% Gassiev hook, literally fell over like a fainting goat!
He didn't, very close fight but Usyk won just about. Actually Hopkins has more of an argument over Calzaghe than Briedis over Usyk
Calzaghe was very very good but was dropped by both B-Hop and RJJ when they were way beyond their best years. Once you could put down as a lapse, twice then it show’s a clear issue. If he has fought outside of the UK when it mattered, he would certainly have losses. Usyk is a level above, he just seems to find any way to win. Not just one way to win like Joe.
That arrogance is why Europeans in boxing surpass the US now .. just because they have success in the States doesn't mean they can't challenge themselves abroad.. all other nations do it.. Hopkins didn't because he probably knew his antics would start a Riot in other countries and he'd be disqualified in half his bouts
Kinda funny seeing people trying to claim a 43 year old Hopkins was in his prime lol. And saying Roy was still world level is a bit dubious imo but it's an easy claim to defend because there's no objective meaning behind it. When was the last real top 10 fighter Roy had beaten before fighting JC? He never beat one after him if I recall... so not sure what him being world level is based on. Just imo
Hopkins fought the same 2 guys 5 different times. Doesn’t seem like he had enough big fights at all. Why again do non American fighters need to travel?
