Is Anthony Joshua the most overrated champion of all time?

Looking back I don't really care who the best of the era was. Wilder feasted on bums and Fury, while the most entertaining in high profile fights, was inactive and picked on low hanging fruit between good wins. Aj consistently fought top 15 competition on a regular basis. I don't care if people call Aj the best of the 3 because he put in the most work to get there in my opinion.

 

This is a good thread to put on ignore on some haters. Just by looking this thread, you can see that AJ was actually highly underrated. So many people were waiting for his downfall, and are hating now, which speaks volume. It's fun seeing so call "grown" individual full of hate and full of ****. As i said a very good thread to make your mind with which people you want to communicate on this forum, and which are not worth your time.

Fury beat soundly Wlad some say ? By what, throwing 2 more arm punches per round, and barely land anything ? Last time i check you are not getting points for fooling around the ring and doing nothing. He just land like 1-2 more arm shots per round and he won, mainly because Klitschko was highly inactive and not willing to let his hands go in that fight. He still had Fury into trouble into the 12 round.

Same Fury who run scared out of 40 years old Wlad. Let's not forget Klitschko was 3 months away from being 40 in Fury fight.
And Klitschko was inactive because of that PED cheater Fury, who run out scared of the rematch, and faked his mental illness.

AJ fought him in his just 19fight, and more importantly, less than 4 years since he turned PRO, which is a huge thing.

And yeah Klitschko was way better prepared for AJ fight, than he was for Fury, and everyone with more than 2 brain cells knows this.
He was shot in both fights, so doesn't matter was it 1 year later or not.

AJ turned PRO 5 years later than Fury, yet he fought so much better opposition than Fury, it's absolutely funny.

There was a few highly overrated fighters in the HW division in the past and still, and that was Ortiz, Wilder, and now Fury.

Unified champion and half a dozen or so defences so not had a bad run. Wasn't as good as the hype but he's had a decent career. When we talk about overated, maybe before the Ruiz fight but he has been trashed a lot on social media and on the forums since then.

 

He was mentally shot after the Wlad fight. Completely changed his style and never really looked to go back. I thought he would pick and choose when he boxed and played it more aggressive but he just changed full stop. It was his first test as well and he didn't even lose! The first person that stood up to him had him running scared forever. Wlad needed two bad stoppage losses before reinventing himself and even then his arse didn't fall out as much as AJs did. He smacked around prime Pulev and Povetkin. Lennox Lewis got embarrassed twice on the biggest stage and it just made him better.

It makes me laugh how people try to make out like he's some underappreciated victim. He has done phenomenally well in monetary and fame terms ruling over stiffs. Wlad did that in his sleep for over a decade and people completely switched off from watching heavyweight boxing and said the division was dead!

 

Compared to Fury, he is a total bum, yes.

 

Joshua has acheived a lot in boxing and he did nobody can deny that,he was a unified champion in a relatively short time span but he was never going to live up to the Matchroom hype that they bestowed on him. Joshua wasn’t only a fighter he was also a brand with all his sponsors and endorsements and so was accordingly marketed. The wheels started to come off after the Wlad fight and despite this win he clearly did regress and seemed to take a step back from his game pre Wlad,then after the Ruiz loss in which he had been on top then got knocked down four times before quitting he has simply not been the same fighter. Now after his two losses to Usyk,Joshua must now rebuild without his A side luxury’s and enforced rematches and hopefully he does make the relevant fights and then challenges the title holders once more.

 

That Wlad was a better Wlad - for whatever reason - than the one that faced Fury IMO

It's probably because Wlad was always known as a gym rat.

He was in training for Fury for who knows how long, then switched his attention to Joshua a few months after Fury announced retirement. He was inactive in the sense of not being in the ring, but not in the sense of say a Ricky Hatton who would go on benders between fights.

Ranking bodies like TBRB placed Joshua at #1 and Klitschko at #2 following the fight. So I think it is fair to say, at the time it was a good win.

 

Ironically I think AJ is possibly now one of the most underrated champions. I’m not a fan but hell, the hate and toxicity from many on here towards him is borderline obsessive.

 

This is not true at all. He fought the contenders and champions put before him. If he was guided he won’t have fought Usyk and would have vacated the belt as it was a stylistic nightmare and won’t have fought Andy Ruiz Jr on short notice.

Ok what's the definition here of overrated? Top 10 all time HW champ? Hell no.
Decent fighter who achieved much despite a proven lack of the mental fortitude required and possessed by all greats? Hell yes.
