.. In their drawn fights with Holyfield and Wilder, to give them more chance of getting the decision? Was there something missing from their game in those drawn fights, that stopped them getting a win?
Lewis won his first fight with Holyfield. It was a decision so bad my grandfather refused to buy PPV's for the next 5 years. So I never got to see the 2nd fight as a kid. I rewatched them both last week. Lennox needed a knockout to win with those awful cards. Fury won too, but it's far closer to a draw since he got dropped twice.
Holyfield won the 2nd fight but the judges gave it to Lewis because of the fuss about the decision in the first fight..
Evander Holyfield told everyone who would listen that he would knock Lennox Lewis out in the third round….Lennox of course laughed it off at press conference…go back to round 3 of their first fight and watch Lennox run and hold for 3 minutes….that’s your draw right there
Yep, Lennox won that easily for me too. Suppose my question was, what could they have done differently, apart from obviously ko them, to put the fight more securely in their favour? Perhaps Lewis could have being a little more aggressive perhaps out there, not hold back. But he definitely won the first fight, how ever much his haters hate.
Fights last more than 3 mintues. Lennox won the first fight easy. 2nd fight was much better but still had Lennox winning.
I think Lewis could of stopped Holyfield in their 1st meeting, Holyfield was lackluster and Lewis had him hurt along the ropes numerous times. And didn't really go in for a kill, I definitely think Lewis could of been more assertive and aggressive and got the stoppage. As for Fury he was coming off a huge lay off after his personal problems, while losing a ridiculous amount of weight. So obviously Fury wasn't at his best, but Fury said he tried to have a good finish in 12th round, so with hindsight I guess Fury could of boxed the 12th round, more cautiously not giving Wilder 10-8 round.
That's the thing, bud. Lewis didn't really go all out at times. Perhaps wary of Holyfield countering him and the Mccall fight flashing through his mind?! And yes, if Fury had being fighting regularly before Wilder one, he stops Deontay. I'm sure of that now.
Lewis when he went with Steward, definitely was a more cautious fighter. A bit like Wlad but not "that cautious". I definitely feel like Lewis could of stopped Holyfield, maybe even in the 5th round aswell, he had Holyfield against the ropes for a whole minute. And kept pawing the jab at him, at that moment we needed the younger Lewis of the Ruddock fight.
Now that Lewis, the one that destroyed Razor, was the one that first turned me on to him. I was impressed with some of his earlier fights, but seeing him destroy the guy that had gone 18 rounds with Tyson, now that was good!
I’m not saying that I think Holyfield won …he lost both fights in my opinion…and I was cheering for him
I know Lewis was better in his later career, but i actually preferred the younger, lighter, more athletic Lewis.
It's a bit like Ali with some, they prefer the dancing master to the laid back on the ropes version. Lennox grew quite big over his career didn't he, lookin at him beating Derek Williams and Mason, then fighting Tyson.
