Ward was a genius! Every one of those guys would have beaten his ass. Beterbiev would have knocked him out. Bivol would have given him a boxing lesson like he did Canelo. Gvozdyk would have humiliated Ward. Ward fought Kov, the only one he could have beaten and failed on the first fight. Had to cheat to win the second. Ward knew when to quit. Genius.

Yeah yeah yeah.. You’re Monday morning QBing the situation.. Neither guy was a champion when he retired, you’re only looking at them now and saying that. Nothing wrong with retiring early instead of late.

Hey I understand he should have fought Bute and I believe had Bute best Froch maybe he would have. However he still won the tournament which featured all the top SMWs. Then he stepped up to the next division and fought Kovalev losing the first time in my eyes but he did win the rematch. Conquering 2 divisions is fine.

ward is a joke . Beterbiev or bivol would do him worse than Kovalev in the first fight

He also had the chance to fight Canelo, at least it seemed like an option because he was making excuses as to why he wouldn't come back for that fight, even though most fighters kill for that fight. This showed how desperate he was to keep the '0' and play it safe, despite all his talk of taking risks.
Name a fighter that would talk themselves out of the Canelo fight? Especially when they are naturally bigger.

I think a properly prime Kovalev would KO Ward. Kovalev by the time of their fight was already jaded, it's obvious he was on the brink when we see what followed. Still, Kovalev won that fight according to many and at worst it was neck and neck. The Kovalev from the Cleverly fight would stop Ward I believe.

    Beterbiev would likely KO Ward.

Ward had a cheating style based on grappling and ducking below the waist etc. He could box without that and do well, but he would have lost more fights.

I think there is a bit of revisionists history going on here.
95% of the public and media has kovalev winning the first fight, most by a good Margin. Only a few members of his promotion company had him winning, barely.

Kovalev clearly won that fight according to anyone he isnt stupid or corrupt.
Ward has at least one L on his record in reality. He knew he didn't even win that fight, you can see how he acts after it

Wouldn't come close to being the goat doing that.

Honestly don't think he could ever have a career great enough to separate him that much from Joe Calzaghe.

Doubt he comes away with a single W against any of them on a level playing field with a neutral ref and judges

And here's the kicker.. this potential could've been a ''GOAT'' would never have dared fought any of them under those conditions, let alone in their countries with a home ref or home ref a home judge, two home judges, or his personal favourite - a home ref and three home judges

But all of them would've done so with him

A chicken cannot be a GOAT

Ward was good but not the virtuoso Mayweather-esque talent he was made out to be. Kovalev beat him. Their second fight was a farce. Froch was growing in to the fight in the latter rounds and he was just a tough guy when all is said and done. He never fought off home turf. He was obviously talented but he would've lost sooner or later. He is a clown too. Insinuating that he could've beaten AJ is ridiculous whether he means it or not.

He fought the prettiest girls at the ugly contest though. The division was not great.

Ward wouldn't be the GOAT by beating them. He wouldn't even be the GOAT at 175 with those guys as wins on his resume.

Lol! Ward saw what The Nail did to Stevenson and backtracked real quick on coming out of retirement :)
