The most overrated fight I hear talked about is “The War” it was great but it was over after the first very good round round. All Hagler after and one sided at that. Plenty of Jung Koo Chang rounds could’ve surpassed it for action, Sung Kil Moon definitely brought more excitement in the Konandu fights every round just about. Mm.

I haven’t had a pulse for years then. Guess it’s my fault for starting off with the superior boxers below 175lbs.

I applaud the methodology behind this. I do.

A heavyweight watchers enjoyment commits suicide in the face of practically any world class fight below 135lbs. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar or enjoys a lower vintage of boxing! These people would also be similar to those who enjoy goon.

Or monster truck rallies and bad beer.

Heavyweights are like that. Cheap entertainment.

On the mark. I prefer to sit at home and read the classic novel named Ricardo Lopez.

Always found Lyle vs Foreman a bit overrated. It's often described as a non-stop toe to toe brawl, but large sections of it were quite slow and cagey. The last few rounds are genuinely nuts though.

You were doing very well until this. Duran put on a masterclass of effective aggression along with slippery defense. It wasn't that close of a fight nor was there any controversy regarding the decision.
The official scorecards are actually an embarrassment but remember the bout was in Leonard's defacto hometown and at that time an emerging Superstar. Duran even took the 15th round off to celebrate.
Oh and that mauling you mentioned, was Ray Leonard hanging on for dear life as Duran worked him over. Even the most loyal Leonard fan would have to acknowledge Ray missed more punches from point blank range than he usually did in 3 fights.
With that said I agree it wasn't a great fight in a classical sense as Duran was in control throughout but a great event at the time.

Il go with Red Smith's quote "The boy became a man and the man became a legend.".

Holyfield-Tyson I, great fight don't get me wrong but vastly overrated by some.

Upon rewatching Lucas Matthysse vs Ruslan Provodnikov it was a less enjoyable fight than I remembered. Matthysse pretty much controlled the entire fight while Provodnikov was eating punches while occasionally landing a big punch that didn't effect Matthysse. Not sure how anyone had that fight close.

Victor Ortiz vs Andre Berto wasn't that great of a fight other than the KDs traded and Emanuel Steward screaming "Ohhh maaaa Gawd". For the most part it was one sided with Ortiz showing a bit more courage than Berto who can't seem to be able to cope with Ortiz's pressure. Also lots of clinches as well.

The fight was close in my opinion Leonard had his moments where he actually outworked Duran on the inside.

    Duran vs Leonard 1

    1 Leonard
    2 Duran
    3 Duran
    4 Duran
    5 Leonard
    6 Leonard
    7 Leonard
    8 Leonard
    9 Duran
    10 Leonard
    11 Duran
    12 Duran
    13 Duran
    14 Duran
    15 Leonard

    143-142 Duran

I thought this was a very close fight, and i could actually see an argument for Leonard maybe edging this fight. Duran clearly won rounds 2-4, but Leonard had a good spell between 5-8. And at times was able to make Duran back up onto the ropes, and i felt Leonard outpunched and landed the more effective punches than Duran in these rounds.

I actually had Leonard ahead after 10 rounds, but Duran really upped the pace in the final 4 rounds. Landing the harder more effective punches and was the non stop aggressor, rounds 13 and 14 were fairly competitive though. And you can maybe make an argument Leonard may of won one of these rounds. But i gave them both to Duran as i liked his effective aggression, and i felt he landed the harder punches.

Duran gave away the 15th round by clowning, which was kind of a silly thing to do. As the fight was competitive and close, so kind of bizarre thing to do but in the end it didn't matter.

Overall i think this fight has developed into kind of a myth, that Leonard got beaten up and beaten convincingly. Yes Leonard did fight the wrong fight, but he was able to fight off the ropes very effectively. And there's even a few times in the fight where he backed Duran up, and was able to go punch for punch with Duran, for me this was a very competitive fight that Duran edged based on the later rounds. But in no way did Duran win this fight convincingly in my view.

Megafight? as Hagler said later it's the only fight I ever had where I didn't get a scratch.

Mayweather-Pacquiao. No matter how bad you think it was, it was worse.

Ali vs Frazier II - Ali’s consistent holding constantly derailed the action. Ali is a bore in my opinion.

I don’t think it was that close. I don’t like Ali, but this was his night.
