    1. AJ and Tyson were undefeated champions with 3 year reigns, knocking almost everyone out

    2. Both KO'd an aging ATG former lineal champion who'd been dethroned by a 4/1 underdog on points and was returning from an extended layoff

    3. Both suffered historically massive upset defeats to one-hit wonders who lost the belts in their first defences after not preparing properly and blowing-up 15 lbs

    4. They came back and became champions again but didn't seem to be the same fighters they once were and had much shorter second reigns

    5. Their second reigns were ended by ATG cruiserweights in fights they were expected to win and they lost the immediate rematches, resulting in public meltdowns

    6. Both were overhyped and ultimately exposed as on-top fighters who lacked mental fortitude in the tough moments

Prime Tyson when he was training properly was unbeatable

No way was he a "hype job"

No boxer is unbeatable, especially not a one-dimensional, 5'10, 215 lbs A-side bully fighter with mental problems and gas tank issues.

Being overhyped is not the same as being rubbish. Like AJ, Tyson was a very good boxer but both were overhyped if we're being objective. In 5/6 of Tyson's losses he was the favourite: 42/1 against Douglas, 25/1 against Holyfield the first time and still the favourite in the Holyfield rematch! So-called "experts" and the general public seemed to believe that Tyson couldn't be beaten even after he'd been smashed to bits by a fringe contender and been in prison for about 4 years.

Mike actually unified the entire division and became undisputed/lineal. Holyfield was a multi time heavyweight champion when Mike fought him while it was Usyks 3rd fight at HW as a pro. Tyson from 86-88 def wasn't a hype job. Even post Douglas Tyson was still an ATG HW, but that Prison stint significantly watered down his style.

If Tyson didn't sack Rooney he arguably would've gone down as the greatest of all time. Bold statement I know, but I stand by it.

In my view I feel this video was the most objective about Mike Tyson's boxing career. I think Short Round made some really great observations regarding the parallels between Anthony Joshua and Mike Tyson. I am not sure if Joshua will be to recapture his previous form but I wouldn't discount him as a competitive challenger. The comeback Mike Tyson didn't make right choices and therefore didn't get the right results. He surrounded himself with people he referred to himself as " leeches" and allowed Don King to manipulate him not to mention all of the distractions beyond boxing like alcohol, drugs and promiscuity he just couldn't hold it down and stay disciplined enough to beat decent opponents.

I feel Anthony Joshua's professional skill set against Vladimir Klitischko was still slightly raw at that stage and he showed a lot of resilience under pressure. I liked his fight against Alexander Povetkin though because Povetkin was still a dangerous opponent and a credible threat at that time and Joshua handled it very well. Also in the Andy Ruiz Jr rematch he demonstrated his versatility and I feel it is one of his best performances. Like Tyson I think all the sycophants and yes men and his commercially constructed image have hindered Joshua's progress along with all of the expectations of the public. I wasn't impressed with his post fight outburst against Olexsander Uysk he just embarrassed himself and none of his team aside from Derek Chisora and his dad seemed to be looking out for him before he went into his diatribe. I think if he had showed the emotion he did in the press conference then people may have perceived that loss differently. Joshua isn't the only boxer who has had outbursts or been obnoxious. I think Uysk handled himself with dignity and he deserves respect for his win.

The biggest issue currently I feel is the divisive tribal boxing fans. Anyone can like either Fury, Joshua, Ruiz Jr, Uysk, Whyte or Wilder you may choose to support any of them and still be civil with one another. It's a sport where all the spectators should respect each other regardless of whether or not their boxer wins.

Tyson is slightly over rated and that's because he is one of the most mainstream boxers just like Joshua but you cannot take anything away from either of their respective fistic achievements that both had been in exciting fights demonstrated their skill sets and scored stunning knockouts. However the fact is there are just other guys out there who are/were better than them!

Shameful to compare Tyson's career pre sacking of Rooney (plus King manipulating things) to Anthony Joshua....i mean wtf!! Nothing about Tyson was 'hype job'. He was genuinely feared by many opponents before his fights....like Spinks!! He was an absolute animal....whereas AJ is just a pussycat

Overhyped = not as good as advertised, AJ and Mike Tyson being classic examples

    Overhyped ≠ rubbish/zero substance hypejob

People are dishonestly strawmanning so they can dismiss the clear parallels.

AJ's lost back to back fights to the CW and southpaw HW GOAT so he's apparently no good and a hypejob, unlike Mike Tyson. But what do you suppose boxing fans were saying about Tyson after he'd not only been smashed to bits by 42/1 underdog Douglas and smashed to bits by 25/1 underdog Holyfield but fouled his way out of the Holyfield rematch after it became clear early on that the writing was on the wall?

AJ's routine is superior to Tyson. No drug taking or crazy partying. He's a consummate professional just hasn't got the born gifts to be the best and he hasn't really learnt much either.
