Who was better ..Ken Norton or Tim Witherspoon?

I agree but Ken's superior conditioning puts him slightly ahead.

 

I'd consider the whole package, but I think the biggest point in Ken's favor is that he never said he took a dive in one of his official losses.

 

But the real question is whether "Do you think J-Lo is a pretty lady?" was an easier or harder question than the question of whether the question "Do you think J-Lo is a pretty lady?" was the easiest question you've ever heard. Either possible answer to this latter question would be questionable.

 

Tim never had the wins Norton did. Young and Ali (twice in my book) is a way better resume. Not to mention, a past it Norton gave prime Holmes overall a better fight.

All that said, Witherspoon was an excellent fighter, a step above the majority of alphabetters.

Norton was an incredible athlete. In high school (I believe it was in Illinois) Norton won 7 out of 8 events at a track meet. Causing the state to invoke what is commonly known as the "Ken Norton Rule" limiting contestants to 4 events.

 

I agree with this even in Witherspoon's best performance vs Holmes. His output was so and so, and that's what cost him the fight. Especially coasting in the last 2 rounds.

 

In this case "spell" means "timeframe" or "time".

 

I finished my back and forth with that poster in 2019.

 

Holmes hurt him back in round 9 and he was unwilling to go balls to the wall or even close thereafter in order to give himself a the best chance of winning. This was part of the difference between Holmes and a few guys - Holmes was willing to lay it all on the line in order to give himself the best chance of winning. He could dig deep.

 

By the same token you've hardly provided "proof" it's a fallacy.

The punches that Bonecrusher hit Witherspoon with were damaging punches, I just think personally at that time Witherspoon was all over the place mentally, with the issues with Don King and his training habits, as I said before he was going through the motions. I don't know if he took a dive, i think it was probably more so that he was probably fed up and unmotivated at the time. And Bonecrusher was in the right place at the right time and took full advantage.
