Foreman punched at maybe 80% power with his rights all night up until that punch to get Moorer comfortable and underestimating his power, Moorer was never that serious anyway I don't think he actually beat Holyfield Atlas literally had to go postal on his ass just to get out of him what he should have been bringing the entire time

That’s fair, in so far as it’s all opinion based and some opinions are better reasoned than others.

You obviously know what you’re talking about. I’d probably back Louis more in mod. times than you which I conveyed in all light heartedness.

I understand some might feel that a number of HW past masters might be culled out due to size for one thing.

The funny thing with Louis was he wasn’t as small as many might believe, certainly there wasn’t so much to choose between he and Ali - and atop that, bigger guys were his bread and butter.

Also, due to his sheer economy, Louis often tethered himself closely to the abilities of his opponent. - almost as if fighting “down” to their level but still sufficiently superior to take them out.

Boxing is all about action/reaction and that’s why it’s not always appropriate to extract the exact same version of a fighter from one fight (say the Louis version from the first Conn fight) and pit that same model against other fighters who would require and demand different actions and reactions from Louis - as such, you wouldn’t be seeing the same Louis given a different opponent - Louis would act and react differently.

The rematch phenomena bodes well for Louis - proving that Louis could and would bring that much more to the table if he was a bit too economical or lackadaisical the first time around.

Louis might have greater demands put upon him in certain H2H match ups in more mod. times but I think Louis’ manifest performances and his implied potentials suggest him to be more than up to the task of elevating himself as and when required.

Ali needed Frazier to show the extent of his prowess at an absolute stretch.

Had Frazier not existed to provide insight into Ali’s extreme attributes those attributes would’ve still existed in potential but would not have been so clearly advertised in the face of lesser competition - and while, for some, Ali’s superior comp. might recommend him over Louis - that same comp. also served to push Ali to be all that he could be.

Sorry to rant. Being a fast typer makes it far too easy to wind it out and cr*p on. LOL.

I have a feeling that a lot of those who think that the 70s are overrated are the same who dream of sucking Holmes off for beating 20 bar fighters, fat guys, drug addicts, and sick old men, after arguably beating a seventies second tier guy who won his title in a board room.

So you'd favor a sub 200 pound, wild, come forward fighter with 7 professional fights over the best of second career George?

And back then I knew and could pronounce all the tennis players names - Borg, Connors, McEnroe, Nastase, Tanner, even Martina Neverratonalover, ....etc.

Now we have names like Kokkinakis - be very careful with that surname, and I don’t even want to know the translation for that one from Greek to English….

Ultimately EVERYTHING was bigger and better in the 70s…The Man From Atlantis, Dallas, Disco, Lit up dance floors, the Airport Disaster movie series, Pet Rocks etc. Hands down, the best decade ever….

I just need to know: do you think George got lucky?

More seriously (and it could only ever be) look at the whole mosaic of Foreman’s comeback - none too shabby.

Big George hung long enough to make it happen, in whole 2nd career terms and in terms of the actual fight itself.

A much deserved and incrementally worked towards victory and regaining of the title he was somehow “lucky” enough to win the first time around.

I agree, Louis was truly awesome and he carried fighters for sure instead of crushing them as quickly as he could have. Personally I think Ali made some good points when he talked with Cus about Louis. But I think Joe holds up a lot better than any other heavyweight from Liston backwards. When Ali was talking about "Old shufflin' Joe Louis" and the footage played, it struck truth into my heart. I don't think it was said out of jealousy.

Ha,ha,ha, so the 90's heavyweight champion lost by knockout in the 10th round to an old man because of,,,,luck? that version of Foreman would have never seen the 10th round in the 70's.

Based on the sheer amount of times holyfield hit him, I tend to think old George makes almost any final ball with the 70 crew.

Holy only weighed 205lbs in that fight, Frazier hit harder despite being around the same weight and no way could he take that amount of shots from Shavers or Ron Lyle.

Yes, Moorer was completely dominating him up until that point.
And Moorer wasn't even the best champ of the 90s, not even close.
Foreman lost to every good boxer he faced in the 90s.

Actually, against some opponents, he'd a lot better.
90s Foreman was stronger and much smarter in terms of pacing himself.
