Will the Ruiz-Ortiz fight have much effect on the legacies and standing of Usyk and Fury?

    Simple premise.

A lot of Fury's legacy is based on the Wilder fights. Ortiz is virtually the only good opponent that Wilder has faced.

Usyk's entire heavyweight career is based on the Joshua wins. Joshua is 1-1 with Ruiz.

If Ortiz smokes Ruiz, then it diminishes Joshua, and makes it look like he was the side show all those years.

If Ruiz smokes Ortiz, then it lessons Wilder, and makes it looks like he was the sideshow all those years.

If Ortiz wins, then Usyk is diminished.

If Ruiz wins, then Fury is diminished.

    Or..."styles makes fights...triangle theory doesn't work...etc."

    Discuss.

Actually I agree with the triangle theory does not work , but there are levels to this. This fight might show levels. You are right.

I think it's tempting to triangulate.

But let's be fair. Ortiz first fought Wilder almost five years ago...back when Luis had only just become eligible for his Social Security checks. A lot can happen to a man between age 65 and age 70.

Good, good point. And on the other side of things, Ruiz having to lose over 200 pounds could have permanently affected his heart and musculature.

If Ruiz vs Ortiz had taken place in early 2020 (shortly after Ruiz had went 1-1 against Joshua, and Ortiz had went 0-2 against Wilder), then maybe…

But neither man is the same fighter they were at the time of those fights. Ortiz is totally shot to pieces, and Ruiz has basically been completely inactive with 1 fight in the last almost 3 years.

Also I’m not a fan of triangle theory to begin with. Not even considering that the pair of Ruiz-Joshua and Wilder-Ortiz fights happened 3-4 years ago, the whole premise of: “Fury > Wilder > Ortiz, and Usyk > Joshua = Ruiz, therefore Ruiz vs Ortiz is basically Fury vs Usyk” is incredibly shaky to begin with.

It will show there current levels as a possible comparison.

But having said that Ortiz is 3 years older now at 43 then when he lost to Wilder and Ruiz since beating AJ has looked awful, losing to AJ by a wide decision and getting dropped and rocked by a near shot Arreola.

Ortiz for sure isn't as good as the version that fought Wilder so even if he loses I don't think it reflects too badly on Wilder.

Nah, its too distant now. Ortiz was already old as **** when Wilder fought him but now hes absolutely ancient, and Wilder rocked his brain hard twice which doesnt help. And Ruiz beating AJ was 3+ years ago and he got practically shut out in the rematch.

This fight is too far removed from when Wilder beat Ortiz for it to impact Wilders stock much, imo.

    Nothing diminishes Usyks accomishments.
Ruiz-Ortiz, while interesti g, has no real impact on legacies of Fury or Usyk. It's a fight that shoulda haplened years ago. Both fighters are on the decline.

If Ortiz manages to beat Ruiz at 43 I think we can say with certainty that he was an elite heavyweight in his prime.

Ortiz was essentially, at least in boxing terms, younger when fought Wilder. Ruiz has some years to prove more, but he has potential of doing great fights. But I can't see it the way you describe in those "ifs", it just doesn't go that straight forward, nor "in triangle".

Ruiz vs. Ortiz fight might impact Usyk's or Fury's legacy if whoever the winner is then goes through several top opponents.

Boxing and fighting in general don't work that way. Even 1 fight between, can make a huge difference. You may not be in optimal form, carry an injury or struggle against certain style or so.
I don't see anything change after that fight.
It will be a good win for any of the two, that being said.
