He went for the kill every time he hurt Ortiz last night too, then he'd walk smack dab into a vicious counter straight left, so he'd back the **** off. He was hesitant to take chances. What does that mean? That Ortiz is a better boxer and harder puncher than AJ?
AJ’s legs were gone. He never fully recovered from the first KD. Ruiz knew this and took more chances.
You are right nobody survive a punch to the side of the head the second knock down never happened I think he got an average chin for a heavy.
I think it's safe to say it's declined? Ruiz doesn't typically drop anyone besides AJ. The first Wilder fight Ortiz got KD'd about four times or so, one wasn't counted early on but he was definitely flattened by that punch near the end of a round and bluffed it. So to survive that many big hits from Wilder means his chin couldn't ever have been bad to begin with. The second fight he placed his forehead right in front of Wilder's RH and it only took one. But he could probably have continued for a while. This is why there might be a bit of a question mark over Fury's resistance now, after those three Wilder fights where he got hit in every single one, including the second.
This is clearly a change due to his age or related physical changes. If it had been like this his whole career he would have gotten found out by someone pre-2019.
Who did he fight throughout his career that could ever test it though? Jennings was an average puncher, so was Thompson, Malik Scott was a featherfist. Outside of that who could punch? Dave Allen? Maybe his chin was always average and that's the reason he so rarely got into the ring with punchers. Why no fight against Arreola at least? Or Stiverne? Or Chisora when he was fighting in the UK?
