RJJ didn't lose till he was 35 and that was after coming back down from HW which was clearly unwise.

    His only fault was hubris.

I don't get the recency bias on this forum lately, unless we have a lot of young posters

Not long ago we had countless threads on loma maybe being better than Floyd, Duran, manny etc

Roy in his prime was an absolute athletic specimen and he had the skills and confidence to back it up

Are people judging him after he went back to LHW?

No matter the competition, it was rare for Roy to lose a round in a decade, never mind a fight. Imo his prime is the best I have seen in my 30 plus years watching the sport

Obviously we have many great fighters before Roy, but since the 90s he hit the highest peak. Higher than sweet pea, Oscar, Toney, lennox, Floyd and Manny

    Certainly higher than Usyk!

I'm not interested in the myriad of excuses from the RDL ie. Roid Defence League

No one outside that grotesque circus of doe-eyed delusional carnival freaks is

Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt

Left a million dead Rojos in my wake

    Boring

RJJ? You mean the middleweight champion of the world who won a HW championship of the world too?

I dont think that right now usyk can make the weight to fight prime RJJ (LHW), but if he makes it, he would be destroyed, like everyone else.

Usyk would have beaten Roy. A far worse southpaw in Tarver knocked Roy out and nearly knocked him out again in the rematch. I can't imagine Roy dealing with Usyk's angles or being able to absorb his punches.

To be fair to Roy, he wasn't really even a LHW. His best weight was probably 168 pounds so it's unfair to put him against probably the best CW of all-time (at the least top 3). And he was completely shot at CW later in his career, he had no legs or punch resistance left.

I’m a big fan of both guys. Roy was never a legit cruiser or HW so it’s not a fair comparison. Usyk is still active and has a couple more fights before he hangs it up.

I hate these threads because anyone who picks either fighter going into it will never change their mind. It’s just an excuse to argue. I’d rather argue about fights that can actually happen. Usyk Fury! That fight needs to happen.

I agree. As far as highest peak, RJJ is head and shoulders above everybody. There is nobody in the history of the sport that would beat him in his prime at middle/super middle. Nobody

How the fk do u know if McClellan, Hagler, Monzon, SRR, Daniel Geale etc wouldn't have beaten him.. yes he beat Hopkins but Hopkins was still getting over his anal **** from his prison days and hadn't really hit his stride by that point .. he was blessed with incredible speed but there were many great athletic Fighters throughout history that had great timing and could cut the ring off and weren't fat undisciplined slobs like James toney.. Roy got his arse whipped by southpaws as an amateur & pro, he's lucky the cossacks couldn't turn Pro and bend him over like one of his roosters :)

The G Man is one of my favourites but he couldn’t beat Benn who only fought one way, infact he rendered him disabled for the rest of his natural life. Monzon was a big puncher, thats it. Hagler was just a raging bull who would have got picked off. Did you really fkn say Daniel Geale? Fk outta here

@AdamT said "No matter the competition, it was rare for Roy to lose a round in a decade, never mind a fight. Imo his prime is the best I have seen in my 30 plus years watching the sport". My three favorite fighters are Ali, Pacquiao and Duran and, as much as I hate to admit it, I have to agree with Adam. This is my 57th year of watching boxing and I have not seen anyone better than Roy Jones in his prime. He was as dominant as could possibly be. He rarely lost rounds and had very good power to go along with A+ level boxing skills.
