Let's not do an unnecessary fourth fight like was done with Vasquez/Marquez IV. Let's just leave it at three.
I would rather see Wilder-Fury 4 than Joshua-Usyk 3, but there are so many other young fighters that I would rather see get a shot.
This will only happen if: 1. Fury beats Usyk (which he won't) 2. After Fury beats Usyk (which he won't), he then defends against WBO mandatory (winner of Parker - Joyce) 3. After Fury beats Parker or Joyce (which he won't, because he wouldn't have beaten Usyk in the first place), then the WBC mandatory is next. Assuming of course Wilder blasts through Helenius and Ruiz. None of this will matter though because Fury will be embarassed and outclassed by Usyk. Then we'll likely see Usyk - Wilder down the road rather than Fury - Wilder IV. This is also assuming Fury wants to unify with Usyk in the first place after beating Joshua in December (if they fight). Fury could just run away from the inevitable loss to Usyk by not bothering to unify and defend the WBC belt instead.
They never should have fought a third time! Unless there is good reason for these rubber matches, they are a BAD idea when these guys already fight so seldom, at least when top ranked fighters. Since it takes away from other good matches & worthy contenders getting a chance.
That would be an odd situation wouldn't it? Has anything like that ever happened before, where a guy who has been convincingly beaten three times winds up getting a fourth shot? Lol... would be kinda awkward. That being said, I think Fury only has a couple fights left... Usyk, AJ, and one or two soft touches. I think he will be too busy with AJ or Usyk, or retired. Don't think we will get to a fourth Wilder fight.
I like to think Fury would pass on this one. He was unmotivated for the third fight because he knew how to beat Wilder and didn’t need to work hard. A fourth fight would be painful for the fans. If this fight happens, I will not watch it, bet on it, comment on it or acknowledge that it happened. I’ll pretend it didn’t happen and encourage fans to do the same. So many better options.
@cross_trainer this is turning into one of your threads, where you ask if fighter A fought fighter B 100 times.
Bit different though Lamotta had an argument for winning 3 of the bouts vs Robinson, and one of Pep's losses to Saddler, was on an injury in a fight he was winning. Outside of the knockdowns Wilder has won like 3 rounds in total in 30 rounds.
One does have to wonder how much of a "puncher's chance" Wilder actually has if he landed all three times and didn't KO Fury.
