Before Canelo faced Bivol I argued he was dangerous because, while many opponents have tried techniques from Mayweather or Lara against Canelo, he was the first who could "be" GGG. Canelo adapted to slickness but there's no adapting to GGG's style. It's solid and GGG is physically solid so there are no shortcuts to win, through 24 rounds the contest has been who can dig deeper. Bivol has that solidity of building around a strong jab with good mechanics, but of course he goes in a very different direction. In my mind, the tactic that made the difference for Bivol was getting out of range and/or fully shelling up after landing his blows so Canelo couldn't do anything of note. Bivol was either engaging when he saw his opening or he wasn't there to get hit. The judges just couldn't give Canelo rounds no matter how they tried. GGG, especially in the second fight, did a little bit of hanging out at mid range with a guard at chest level and he let a lot of stray shots in that way. That made it harder to create really lopsided rounds like Bivol did (and Usyk did to AJ). Could GGG succeed with a more defensive approach? It's hard to see him moving like Bivol, especially at his age, but perhaps he could keep a tight guard or find safety inside. He's extremely strong and showed good endurance with a late KO in his last fight.
That's the point even Bivol was nearly robbed 115-113 ? that fight wasn't that close. Golovkin should go all in and seek the KO
That's certainly the expectation, but Bivol twisted that and actually got his hand raised. It would be interesting if GGG followed suit. It's tougher for him because he doesn't have a size advantage and isn't as young as Bivol.
