Muhammad Ali picked up the shoulder roll in a matter of weeks when Harry Wiley who was one of Sugar Ray Robinson's trainers was in his corner for his fight with Jimmy Ellis because Angelo Dundee was in Ellis's corner due to the fact he had a prior commitment to him.

If you teach a guy to fight like Locche you’re crippling him. Locche was a one handed fighter with a serviceable offence but not something to emulate.

Joe Louis was as pretty as a flyweight to watch and easily much more educated and nuanced then someone like Evander in my opinion.

Or have them watch one fighter beating a bunch of different styles.

I was certain recommending Archie and Locche to a beginner will be taken as sarcasm. Nevermind, done derailing the thread.

I'm not trying to derail the thread. I actually wanted to argue why I thought It'd be a bad idea, opinions vary and I wouldn't call picking Moore a bad idea I was just telling you why I thought Nico would be. I didn't know you were being sarcastic, I don't know If the way I wrote suggested otherwise but I promise I wasn't writing with aggravating intent.

No, no. I meant that I should stop derailing the thread. I'll stop derailing the thread now.

Anyways, I wouldn't say Archie Moore is such a great idea due to how hard it is to find a competent cross-guard teacher if you find one at all. Beginners are likely to focus on superficial aspect of technique first, before moving on to true appreciation of ring craft and the likes. He definitely is a masterclass once you know what you are looking for, and Moore-Durelle I alone is such a great example of some cardinal rule of boxing.

I've always recommended Jose Napoles and prime John Conteh. Superb fundamentals and instincts. Same 2 guys I've recommended for probably 20 yrs
