If the money men involved thought they would lose revenue then yes. Regrettably i think the television companies and so many other organisations here in UK, are basing their actions on perhaps how society viewed the monarchy in the early 50s when the last monarch died. The majority of UK citizens do not now view the monarchy in such strong positive terms, so view all this virtue signaling as OTT and many see it as frankly annoying.
If I was a fighter on the card, I'd go back home and sue the BBOC for my purse due to the short notice. It's not fair to be forced to cut weight/peak twice.
I guess it's down to the old geezers in control of sport governing bodies that such decisions have been made. I can imagine Shalom putting forward a scheme to honour HM on the night but being over-ruled.
There's only so much boxing people will watch in one day. Having three major cards on the same date is dumb.
Is the October 15th date official already? I was under the impression that it was just their target date to reschedule the fight. I agree that it seems stupid to hold it on the same day as two other major cards.
Oh, I don't know. Was just responding to the prior poster. Hopefully they'll see what's already happening and target a different date.
It is a terrible decision to cancel the fight, it literally makes no sense to do so. Speaking as a Brit it is prudent for things not to grind to a halt and for events to continue as they are doing. Very peculiar reasoning and it must be a kicker for those who had made arrangements to travel. The event needed to go ahead and you pay tribute at it - now that opportunity is missed.
Do y'all think that the 02 is gonna be as filled on the new tentative date as it would've been tomorrow?
That's what happens when you let government control sporting activities. We would never cancel any fights because a US President died. Now the question is will people still choose to keep their tickets or get their money back. They built this up for so long, but at the end of the day it is just two women fighting. People may lose interest especially since Canelo is fighting next week. And then Shakur, Haney, Benn vs Eubanks and Wilder.
The date in boxing matters more than any other sport. It's not like in football where you can just go again next week. Their physical and mental preparation is all geared towards fight night. They will have to go back in to camp now, pay sparring partners, keep their weight stable for weeks. This is a joke of a decision.
