Two guys that Smokin Joe Frazier never met:Who would have stood most chance of victory over him.

    Ron Lyle Or Jimmy Young?

Equally slim for both guys…I guess Lyle by a hair just due to styles.

Lyle. You're not beating a skilled attrition fighter like Frazier by playing defense, I wouldn't think.

It would take a freak injury for Joe to lose to either guy.

Forced to choose, I'll go with Lyle. He has a chance of hurting Frazier. Young is no Ali and I just can't find a way for him to outpoint or kayo Smokin' Joe.

Yeah a guy like Smoking Joe Frazier did not have a reverse gear in his transmission. Joe's style did eventually shortened his career but he would not let another opponent breath, and talk about punishment, that sledgehammer left hook to the torso and head. Yikes !

Lyle. He has size, strength & power on his side. To beat Frazier, you need to be physical...

Young has no chance of beating Fraizer, a swarmer with unlimited stamina against a defensive fighter with no power. Frazier would run over him like a tank.

Lyle has the best chance of the two because of his size and power, I still think Lyle is overrated though, and I'd still pick Frazier to beat him.

Lyle's got a shot. If Foreman's bombs could hurt Frazier like that, good chance Lyle's could too.

Agreed, Lyle has more of a chance, but both get KTFO. Frazier was much more dangerous in close than Foreman, and I think Joe would handle Lyle better than George did.

Neither. Lyle gets caught hooking with a hooker!

I don’t think either were very good but Young at least knew how to defend himself, Lyle like Foreman just wads out with little thought for what comes back and hopes to connect. I think Lyle has a better chance because of his punch and Frazier tendency to block stuff with his face… but factoring out lucky shots I think Young loses with more dignity wide playing the stalling game but still upright opposed to flat on his back.

Lyle has a real chance. He might beat Joe Frazier as many as one in thirty times. I think you could run that fight with Young one thousand times and never get a Young victory. Joe would have to slip a disc during the fight or tear a biceps in his left in round one, something like that.

Post-Manila I'd give both men a shot at beating Joe. Up to,and including 1975,I'd say Lyle would have a better chance - maybe landing a couple of heavy shots before Joe gets warmed up A very slim chance, though.
