ICYMI, a 10 round fight between Frank Sanchez and Carlos Negron has been added to the October 15th Wilder-Helenius card. Unfortunately, this fight is on the preliminary card. It's the first big for Negron since he was stopped by Breazeale in Round 9 of their 2018 fight. It's possible that his subsequent 1st round stoppage at the hands of a nearly-40 year old Brian Howard in 2019 has had something to do with that. Sanchez and Negron were originally scheduled to fight on January 1st of this year on the Ortiz v. Martin card but the fight was canceled when Negron contracted Covid. Negron has looked good on occasion, but is clearly a level below Sanchez in most respects. Frank should have the definite edge here and really needs to do something that raises his profile. Yet another wide UD win will not accomplish that.
Kamil Soklowski (11-26-3) continued doing what he does best - smudging up the record of up-and-coming prospects - by earning a Draw against Marcin Siwy (25-0-1) in an 8 round bout held on September 2 in Poland. In truth, many saw through Siwy's heavily-padded record because bettors had Sokolowski as a slight favorite. Eric Armit's account of the fight suggested that it was an action-packed one with many punches being thrown and landed. It appears that Siwy's work rate gave him the edge through much of the first five rounds, but Sokolowski showed his usual grit by taking control in the last three rounds as Siwy began to tire.
It appears that Nathan Gorman will not be fighting Fabio Wardley for the English Heavyweight Title on September 17th, as was originally planned. Wardley has pulled out of the fight with an injury. The Wardley v. Gorman fight is now being targeted for some time in November. Nathan Gorman will still be fighting on September 17th. With his opponent still "TBD" nine days from the fight - it's likely his eventual opponent will not be a good one.
Simon Kean vs Newfel Ouateh didn't last long. Ouateh quit one second into the fight, without even a punch being thrown! This content is protected
Ouateh didn't really show much interest in fighting Fa, as I recall. He seemed to give up immediately after Junior landed his first solid shot.
Found this account of the fight: "Heavyweight Simon Kean (22-1, 21 KOs) won a bizarre first round TKO against Newfel Ouatah (18-5, 10 KOs). At the sound of the bell, Ouatah immediately took a knee without being hit and the bout was waved off. Effortless “W” for Kean. Ouatah will obviously have his purse withheld."
Norman Neely moved to 13-0-0 with a UD victory in his 6 round fight with Terrell Jamal Woods (26-53-9) on the non-televised portion of the September 9th "Shobox Next Generation" card in Atlanic City New Jersey. As I've said once or twice in this thread, Woods is probably the closest thing in N. America to Kamil Sokolowski. A skilled fighter can decision him, but it takes a dangerous fighter to stop him. With a 60-54 blanking of Woods on all three scorecads, Neely attested to his membership in the former group. I think it's doubtful that the 6' 3", 241 lb Neely will make it al that far in the HW division, though. He doesn't seem to be a huge hitter and he's already 32 years-old. He was very active in the amateur ranks around 2005-2007 - though not as a SHW - but didn't turn pro until a few years ago due to issues outside of the ring. It's probably fair to regard him as a "longshot prospect", along with fighters like Brandon Moore and Roney Hines.
Or perhaps he forgot to use the toilet before the fight and heard the rumbling of nature's calling as he made his ring walk?
