Why couldn't AJ do this against Usyk like he did Pulev?

25:09 the slip and counter is a thing of beauty...why didn't he do that to Usyk.....he destroyed Pulev

i don't get why AJ didn't throw uppercuts, combos and slip counters to Usyk like he did to Pulev....

Pulev is a staight up come forward fighter. Usyk is a fluid boxer.

It was an angle thing and a tightness of the guard, plus Usyk is harder to time and did more of his own offense.

Also it's not like AJ did zero of this against Usyk, he landed the odd nice shot it just didn't add up to much.

    You obviously never boxed before.
    Quik story for you:
A few of my buddies came into my boxing gym, when I was active as an amateur, they loved boxing but never boxed them self. i was sparring somebody and madly outboxing the guy, after the training my buddies were shocked and told me how „good“ i am and that I am better then a lot of world level pros. I then explained to them that when you are more skilled then the other fighter you can basically get away with anything and make the impression as if you are RJJ but as soon as someone is on the same level or better things look very different. You then have to be twice as cautious about what you throw and when you throw your punches. Same here, against a 40 year old fatso aj could pull of a lot of slick moves, not so much against a masterfull boxer in his early 30s.

    Yeah well said, its levels.

My gf was watching Usyk vs AJ 1 with me and said, refarding AJ, why doesnt he just ko him? What is he waiting for? He looks way stronger...

Not understanding how Usyk was outboxing him and if he could ko him, he would.

Usyks footwork and movement is elite, add a southpaw stance where usyks feet are always planted in the correct position and then constantly turning to the right after he throws makes him a nightmare for a orthodox boxer to land on, especially when he is constantly countering as well.

Usyk's speed is like David Haye without the crushing 1 punch power. The bodybuilder Joshua was way too slow for him. To be honest I didn't think there would be such a big difference in athleticism. Joshua isn't a Wlad or Lewis in the speed apartment. He doesn't have that long range lightning punch to put somebody down. He needed to develop it after the Ruiz debacle. The uppercuts are like his only weapon, and some fighters are too quick for the inside.

    Apples v Oranges for sure

    + Usyk is southpaw
+ Usyk's footwork is far superior to the Pulex that AJ fought
+ Usyk's lead hand is constantly in motion, making his opponent think - either jabs or feints and traps
+ Usyk is also an elite operator in countering with the backhand and making his opponent 'pay for any mistake', and whilst he might be regarded as a 'light hitter', he's still 6'3 and 15 and a half stone ffs - and the sneaky ones you don't see often hurt the most
+ Usyk's ring IQ is also far superior to Pulev, which combined with the feints and movement further drains his opponent and they become over-cautious

As other's have said, Joshua could rarely get into position to execute those types of moves, because he was always a step behind Usyk in terms of "planning his execution", and reacting to what Usyk was leading with. And then we saw what happened in rounds 9/10 when Joshua decided to really try and bring it to Usyk - most of his shots missed/were rolled with, leading to AJ emptying his gas tank, and Usyk then kicked into overdrive in round 10 with a dominating round.

Because counter punching is about taking advantages of openings created by your opponent's own work and Usyk didn't leave himself wide open for what is a very rudimentary counter.

Joshua used the same pull counter to floor Charles Martin. He was so **** he walked into it twice in a row

Pulev gave him the openings and Usyk didn't. A prime Pulev may have done better but he was never in control, gave Dosh a rare dominant win.
