Buster v Holyfield was being talked up beforehand as potentially the best heavyweight fight since Holmes-Norton twelve years previously. And the annoying thing is that it could well have been had Buster not morphed into that pumpkin.

Ali was unbeaten while Douglas had lost to a fighter Tyson had already beat.

Not to take any credit from Evander but yeah, it was a shame Buster didn’t take in the same condition and focus as Tokyo - i agree that it would’ve likely been a great fight if he did.

Greatest upset in the history of all sport. Never take that away from Douglas.

I was only 16 but remembered being absolutely stunned by it. It made front pages of the newspapers in the U.K. and even non boxing fans knew all about it. Tyson was a global name.

His mind wasn't in it for the Holyfield fight as on top of his weight gain he was dealing with Don King lawsuits from the Tyson fight. Even his camp knew he had little chance and wanted to postpone the fight but Douglas went with it anyway, perhaps out of dignity.

"Up and at 'em,it's Adam Ant"

In this case, though,I was referring to the British early 80s band,Adam & The Ants. They did a song called Prince Charming which fitted the theme of your thread. Hope all's good with you,Richard.
