Hello. How are you? I am fine.

I've been trying to do this for years and I think I'll just go ahead and do it now. My basic plan is this:

I'll nominate 20 fighters for each of the original eight divisions and ask you guys to vote for seven, eight or nine of them (haven't decided yet, open to suggestions) and then for each "in between" division I'll nominate a number of fighters and ask you guys to nominate one. That will give us 70-90 fighters, somewhere in that sort of region for the original intake. We'll have a thread with each fighter within it containing a thumbnail sketch of each fighter, record, all the usual pish.

Then, every year, on the anniversary of that thread going up, we'll have another intake of x number of fighters decided in y fashion. We'll have to decide that as a part of this process.

This thread is for forum opinion on the process. I'll list some questions below but first here is a point by point summary:

    01 - The original intake will be made up of 7-9 fighters from each of 112, 118, 126, 135, 147, 160, 175 and unlimited; and 3 fighters from 105, 108, 115, 122, 130, 140, 154, 168, 200.

02 - The forum will vote from a selection of fighters made by me - I understand i'm asking you to trust me on that, and will sometimes disagree, but the democracy has to end somewhere I guess.

03 - The nominated fighters will then be captured in a Master Thread that will contain brief profiles of each fighter, each written by a member of this forum.

04 - There will be a new intake each year on the anniversary of the thread going up.

Not satisfactory (nothing I could think of would be) and up for discussion. So

a - Do you think the numbers for the first intake are right? 7,8 or 9 and 3? Which of 7-9 would you go for if you think that's right.

b - any better way to determine the twenty fighters on each shortlist? I want to avoid, if possible, a vote for the vote.

c - but a vote for the vote might be ok once a year when we have the new intake. How to decide that? It's not that urgent but I want to sort it before we publish (should be this year).

OK share your thoughts. It's your HoF after all, and the definitive one, naturally.

I'll do it only if Gatti is voted in on the first ballot.

Sounds good. I would start with eight entrants; so in theory but probably not in practice, the finest fighter from each of the classic eight would be in the first entrants. After that I would suggest cutting down the numbers to eventually one entrant a year so as to keep the Hall of Fame special and a little more unique from others.

Also as you posted this on the Classic forum have at least a decade retirement rule, so as to as much as possible, make the HOF about quality rather than popularity.

I was thinking of excluding everyone who turned pro from 2000 on, and add a year every year after that.

Importing just one would be brave - but we'd be adding less than that because there wouldn't be a great fighter becoming legible every year. So maybe. Only if we get the process for nominees absolutely nailed though.

    I like the 2000+1 rule.

As for the numbers, if this is the success it could be, I think personally after the first fifty or so fighters (six/seven years down the line), you would be diluting quality if you were still putting eight in every year thereafter. But that is hopefully a discussion to have come 2030ish.

But rightly as it is your idea, you should have your fingermarks all over this.

Well i'm definitely not after 8 a year - lower than that.

One is bold though. I was thinking of two, maybe three, but actually one is quite attractive.

The thing is, imagine no Dempsey, Tyson, Jefrries, Johnson, Wladimir...that's what we're talking about and it might create some stresses

But it is a good way of placing them in our opinions. All would/should get in eventually, but for instance if Wlad is in the 2026 intake and Johnson the 2030, it would say something about what the forum thinks.

My concern numbers wise is after a while popular fighters, but merely very good fighters start to appear. Heavyweights in particular, for example Kenny Norton, a very good fighter, but in my lifetime (I am 48) he should not be in this particular Hall of Fame.

I know what you mean, but how long do you think it would be before Jack Dillon gets in? It would be years and years and he is a great fighter.

This goes without saying, but undisputed ATGs like Ali and Robinson should be inducted in the inaugural class of this HOF.

Can active fighters be voted in?

Also, go 9 for the first year and then 2 per year after until you get to 21, then switch to 1.

Yeah, every divisional top 5 will 100% make it in. Guys who are considered in the top 5 of their division will have no issue making it in. Guys rated roughly 6-8 might have some trouble due to division hoppers, though.

No, no active dudes, i'm still hacking around with how long the exclusion phase should be but it should be big - i'm open to suggestions.

Well, no, whoever gets voted in will be in the inaugural class - but I presume the guys you've mentioned will qualify!
