When comparing Canelo to GGG. What would a 32 year or GGG do to a 40 yr old Canelo?

Silly question tbh, many expected Golovkin to destroy Canelo first time around but he didn't.

Although Canelo was hurt on a couple of occasions in their bouts he was never close to being dropped or stopped, at the end of the day he took Golovkin's best.

A lot of people surely read the article on when they sparred a good number of years before they fought, it made out as though Golovkin was breaking Canelo apart and hurting him, that much so he had to ease off.

I always wonder what would have happened if Canelo vs Bivol only won one round; would it be a draw??? According to punch statistics (boxrec) he did not win a single round.

And I'm not a Canelo hater.

 

Hey man, it's over Canelo goes down as the greater fighter, winner of the trilogy. In part one he boxed well with his back to the ropes, with great ring generalship, in part two GGG changed his fate up by upping the volume of his offence. And here you have it, a few years later age and ring rust reared her ugly head and Canelo dominated.

 

How about a 23 year old Canelo vs a 23 year old Golovkin. Who takes that.

 

Nothing has changed, G won the first 2 and Canelo beat an old GGG. Canelo couldn't faze him with his best shots though.

 

Of course things changed. GGG had a chance to at least get a W on the official score cards but he failed.
Now the official record stands at 2-0-1 for Canelo. No matter how much some of you cry about it, it's NOT going to change.

 

There's a reason they waited 2 years until after the Cotto fight... and they still lost that one clearly. Golovkin would have knocked Clenelos head clean off. The same people now claiming Clenelo has clearly slipped were denying the same claims made regarding Golovkin in his mid 30s(Clenelo isn't even there yet) Golovkin had slipped enough by 2017 where Clenelos handlers were willing to take the risk) at the end of the day he lost clearly to a 35-36 year old fighter while in the middle of his own prime, and he struggled with an even more eroded version of the same fighter years later. All logic suggests prime Golovkin> Prime Clenelo h2h

 

I think Golovkin would win a lopsided decision (with fair scoring that is) with some very damaging rounds or KDs, or get the TKO.

No fighter or athlete is prime at 35. In fact, most used to retire around then or earlier. Even late twenties used to be considered veteran.

So all we need to know is that Golovkin beat Canelo the first time (according to most observers) while being past prime and that tells us everything. It means he does better than that if he was under 30. We don't even need the other two fights to support a case.

The reason Golovkin couldn't drop or KO Canelo isn't really about Canelo's chin, it's about his speed/defence and Golovkin slowing down. Younger Golovkin was faster and therefore would have a better chance of landing his bombs.

The other clue that Canelo fought a depleted GGG even in the first fight comes from our old friend Billy Joe. Remember after the Lee fight he came out and said people had to let him age Golovkin just a few years so Golovking LOST A STEP and then he'd fight him.

Canelo watched that video and agreed.

After the Jacobs fight, people decided Golovkin had 'lost a step' and it became easier to make fights. Billy and Canelo only wanted Golovkin when they thought their speed advantage could be enough to deal with Golovkin's arsenal.

 

GGG had 3 chances to beat Canelo. He failed each time. Each time Canelo got the better of him, what Canelo did to GGG each time was far more impressive and surprising to most (who predicted dominant GGG victories) than what GGG did to him.

The 3 performances (2 wins, 1 draw) against GGG are career defining. There comes a time where you need to just give a man his flowers and stop trying to spin what happened. That ship has sailed my friend. You need to now finally accept that Canelo has won the trilogy and has done so emphatically. If there was any doubt as to who the better fighter is, Saturday put that matter to rest. GGG was completely undressed by Canelo on Saturday. And using age as an excuse for what happened is not gonna work either. 39-year old Marquez KTFO Pacquiao. Hopkins had big wins in his 40s. Froch was older against Groves than GGG was against Canelo in their first 2 fights. Age didn't stop Froch from victory. Crawford is about turn 35, if he fights Spence at 35, he'll be as old as GGG was when he fought Canelo. Canelo is just a special fighter man. GGG is a great fighter too, but he's not on Canelo's level and the 3 fights proved that.

 

Lets reverse it, as the thread said. What would a 32 year old GGG do with a 40 year old Canelo? I answered ,turn Canelo into Proksa. 2-1 GGG. it went from 2-0 to 2-1 GGG. i will say this GGG really messed up, because GGG could have taken Canelo but he didn't apply himself the way he should have.

 

Have you ever stopped to think why he didn't throw many body punches vs Canelo or in any of his recent fights? Why would he shelve one of his most potent weapons unless he had no choice?

Clue: aging footwork.

I'm no GGG apologist but you yourself have identified the issue wasn't merely Canelo when you referenced the Lemieux fight...

 

It would depend on a few different factors. Would 32 year old GGG have fought all the same opponents Canelo has to this point?
